He gave estimates of window cleaning, screen cleaning, power washing the house, porch, and decks, and submitted a written estimate electronically as I asked. As fall came we had other tasks we wanted to finish on the house first before having the windows cleaned, so we didn't call until October to schedule work. Money became a bit tight for us, so we decided to put off all but window and screen cleaning.
Josh arrived a bit late the first day (Friday, November 4, 2011), but called ahead and kept me informed. He was working without his regular helper, who I believe was ill that day, so jobs were taking a bit longer without a helper and an extra pair of hands with his ladders, etc. He was friendly and extremely polite and got right to work, patiently answering my questions as he began on the inside of our dramatic picture windows on the back of the house overlooking the river. We have an 18-foot ceiling peak in the living room, so the upper bank of windows is a challenge for an acrophobic (fear of heights) person like myself. Josh was extra careful bracing and cushioning the ladder to clean the inside surfaces of our highest windows, and everything looked great as he took of the years of film that had accumulated with the previous owners of the home. Working alone he ran out of time and daylight, and arranged to come back the following Friday to finish. He and his brother arrived promptly and got to work, and finished in a couple hours. The screens had so much dirt and debris that we couldn't believe the difference. We had tried cleaning them ourselves, but didn't brush as skillfully as Josh and his brother. They kind of taught me how they do it, and even left one of their old brushes so we could keep up with the screens ourselves. Josh gladly touched up a couple streaks on one of the upper picture windows on the back of the house and everything looked wonderful. We can't believe how much better the views of our woods and riverbank are behind our house--and sorry we didn't do this sooner after moving in. We had lived in the house more than a year with the dirty windows and screens, and won't ever let them get that dirty again.
Next Christmas we are definitely contacting Shine about their holiday decoration service after the "adventures" we had this year we light timers and extension cords. I'd rather let pros deal with all that, and clean up to boot! For the price we got about eight person-hours of quality work on our windows and screens, and expect the annual cleaning to be quicker and easier in the future. We will use Shine every year and recommend them to everyone."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/mi/okemos/shine-window-cleaning-and-holiday-lighting-reviews-6424623.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Kingston Enterprises","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MI","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Heide N."},"reviewBody":"Tony first came over and sat with us to discuss putting stone up to cover some unsightly black waterproofing that was around the basement area. We have a walkout basement and wanted this to look better to sell our house. We saw a commercial on TV and thought Kingsmen seemed like an established company that obviously knew what they were doing. After speaking with Tony and his decorator/designer person that he brought with him, we wanted to proceed with our project. This second person is no longer with the company and we never saw her again. Replaced with another. He seemed to really care about the Michigan economy, saying they were keeping everything in Michigan to help rebuild. The company even had a bible verse quoted on the hat Tony was wearing. It ended up being better for us to just forget about the stonework and opted to replace the siding on the whole house and extend it to drop all the way to the ground to cover our problem. We then decided that gutters would be done too. We explained to them that we wanted to wait til our tax return was here before work started. Tony told us that this would be ok, but we should have him buy the supplies now to get them at the current price and then they would save for our project. We signed our contract and began. This was Feb 16,2011.We ended up getting our tax return in May 2011. We contacted Tony and the work was supposed to start the beginning of June. We were also told they had to reorder our siding because after so long they return it. This really upset us since we had the conversation with Tony in which he told us to order early. Because this happened we started really having second thoughts about this company because Tony seemed to us such a smooth talker. No matter what question we asked there was always a lengthy answer/ excuse. We even tryed to get out of our contract, but it would have costed us too much. ( in retrospect we should have). Tony assured us that we would be beyond happy with the work.We kept calling Tony to see what the issue was. Tony was next to impossible to get hold of. Never in the office, never answering the phone. He would call us eventually to \"explain\" everything. At one point he even left a message on voicemail basically saying that we were being too hasty. He was doing everything he can. He had a huge project going on in Okemos, and because that was bigger our project would have to wait. Our project started soon after. The siding people came out. We walked the house with the lead siding person. He stated that Tony did not tell him about our project. They listened to us and started work. We were surprised by the fact that they had been subcontracted. We were also surprised to find that a permit was never pulled to do this project, which the city was quick to point out. Again Tony not available. The subcontractors delt with this for us.During this Tony had said that the color gutters we had ordered was on back order. This surprised us again because we wanted white. We never asked to have them the same color of the siding. During this whorl gutter wait time with Tony a man comes up to us from the gutter company, which is also subcontracted! He sakes us which color gutters we wanted. This was amazing to us since the one of the reasons our project didnt start on time, along with the returned siding and the huge other project in Okemos, was our gutter was on back order. This man told me that any color was available and we can start. All they needed was for us to pick a color. There were a few problems with the work, but each one pointed out and quickly delt with through the siding foreman. He took care of every concern quickly. Tony hardly ever called and was very difficult to contact, even for these subcontractors. In the end we were happy with the look of our house. We weren't beyond happy, but it looked good. Work was finally done after about a month. This job took forever. Wanting it all behind us we arranged for a rep for Kingsmen Construction to pick our check up. This happened 8/26/2011.That's not all! In October 2011, we get a notice of lien. Wimsatt building supplies, the people who supplied the Kingsmen subcontractors, filed this because they were not payed. This surprised us since we PAID Kingsmen. We call Wimsatt and confirm. We then go to Kingsmen after not being able to contact Tony. Tony's wife tells us they have tried calling and paying the bill and they won't let Kingsmen pay. She said they pay there bills and are not lying to us. This lien means nothing and will be taken care of. After heated debate we shook and left not knowing what to believe. The next day Tony calls us. He stated that he did know this was going to happen, our money is in an account. He is not paying the siding people until they agree on a price for labor. This should have been done before our contract. Our contract gave us an amount which is what we are supposed to be responsible for. Extra is supposed to be between them. That's what contracts are for.Well, as of Nov 14, 2011 we now have a second lien. This one from the gutter people. We are trying to deal with both now.Seriously, the worst mistake ever!Trying to rebuild Michigan with 2 liens and possibl foreclosuresGo Kingsmen!"},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/mi/lansing/kingston-enterprises-reviews-2284794.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Horner House Interiors","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MI","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Kathy K."},"reviewBody":"My husband and I went to Horner House to get an estimate for tile flooring. Cathy the owner was friendly and very helpful. She came to our house right away and measured and got me the estimate within a couple of days. We decided to go with that estimate and she scheduled the job within a week. Pat Combs was the installer and he was professional and punctual every day. It took 8 days to do the entire job. I was very happy with the job. They even helped moving the appliances in and out in order to put the tile where the appliances sit. That included the washer and dryer.
