"The installation went very well. We had to wait 3 months for an appointment, as they were really booked up, and we are over 100 miles from the factory. The crew showed up on time, and did an excellent job of removing the 77 year old windows that had the original framing. They set the new windows very professionally, and did a great job of caulking. They demonstrated the features and had us use them so we were sure we knew how to work them. We have window air conditioners for our small house, and they re-installed them in a leak-proof frame."

"I would definitely recommend Helios Shades. I had a tricky job retrofitting my old 25’ high silhouette blinds with newer motors. Helios was Knowledgeable, Professional, respectful of property & completed the job quickly & efficiently!"

"Everyone was prompt, polite, and efficient. The Quality Manager set a convenient appointment for a quality review (couple of days after install). He found several minor things. He actually fixed a couple of items and had a crew out to fix the rest of the list two days later. This was a big process with 42 windows being capped or replaced."

"As a licensed real estate agent, I have trusted Top Notch Labor with numerous projects for my clients, and they never disappoint. They recently did some flashing repairs around my own chimney, and the work was flawless. Their pricing is excellent, they show up exactly when they say they will, and they leave the job site spotless. It is rare to find a contractor this reliable. I will continue to recommend them to my clients and use them for my own home!"

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.
