"We hired R and D Drywall to complete drywall and painting for bathrooms, hallways, and one bedroom. Shawn was prompt in quoting and inspecting after completion. DJ, Justin & Paul did a great job and were very thorough. They put everything back in order and cleaned up completely. We will definitely hire again we've already asked Shawn for another quote on a different area in the house."

"My husband’s office was a mess after a leak in our roof damaged the ceiling. The ceiling in that room has a tricky texture with a swirl pattern, and we’ve tried before to get it to match without any luck. But thanks to Cooper Drywall, it finally looks perfect! You can’t even tell where the damage was — the repair blends in seamlessly. We also had them fix a hole in the wall and it looks just as smooth and flawless. What really stood out was how well the owner communicated. He actually called and spoke with us directly — not just through texts, emails, or automated systems. It was so refreshing to talk with a real person who was patient, friendly, and happy to answer all of our questions. Cooper Drywall was professional, punctual, and respectful of our home. They protected the workspace, cleaned up thoroughly, and finished right on schedule. The quality of their workmanship and attention to detail truly exceeded our expectations."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

You should start looking for a drywall installer by choosing a local company with positive online reviews and ratings with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Next, confirm that the professional is properly licensed using Angi’s contractor licensing tool, and ask the installer if they are fully insured. It’s a good idea to ask for recent customer references and call them to get their honest opinion about the contractor and their work. You can also ask the installer if they guarantee their work or provide a workmanship warranty.

Yes, you can hammer a nail into a wall stud. But before you do, it’s important to confirm that you’re actually nailing into a stud—and not wiring, pipes, or ductwork. To check, find a few more studs in the wall, then measure to make sure they’re either 16 or 24 inches apart.

Plastering lasts for around 15 to 20 years without needing repairs or maintenance in most cases, and with proper upkeep, plastering can last a lifetime—sometimes more than 100 years. Plaster repair costs between $1 and $3 per square foot, and you may need these services once every 15 to 20 years or so unless you have a harsh climate where humidity changes are a constant issue. You can also opt to skim-coat plaster for between $0.90 and $1.30 per square foot, which may serve you better in the long run.

How you hang the drywall can affect the finishing process. It's often easier to finish horizontal drywall panels, as the seams run across the wall rather than up and down. Standard drywall panels are 48 inches wide, so the seam is easy to reach without bending down or stretching your arms.
