"They've maintenanced my furnace before I required a new one and they've always maintenanced the new one since I got it replaced about 3 years ago. Very easy to work with. I think I've been using them since 2008."

"They pointed out areas of air loss that needed to be covered or blocked and advised  more attic insulation which service they will provide. Their price offer seems reasonable.  I'm still crunching numbers.

"We had a guy come out and assess our insulation and he was kind of creepy. The way he talked, the way he went up in the attic and grabbed a handful of insulation, showed us what was there and got it all over the couch and the floor, and he ended up telling me  that he didn't think that I needed anymore insulation. I guess he was honest and I was a bit creeped out. He didn't make a bid because he didn't think I needed any more insulation. I'm pretty certain that we would not call them again."

"

Jay was able to instantly give me a unofficial price range and tell me exactly what would need to happen. This gave me a good feeling that he knows what he's talking about. A few days later I received the actual quote. It was a tick higher due to the Township requirements on the footings (I believe). It is still way under what the first person told me from another company.

I was very impressed with Jay. Especially after he came back a second time to take a closer look at the ice dam on my roof. Instead of trying to sell me more insulation, etc., he truthfully told me that it was just the way the house was framed and could be fixed - but wouldn't look pretty lol.

Hopefully I will be able to hire Jay this summer to get the work completed.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The cost to rent an insulation vacuum ranges between $250 and $350 per day. The price will increase if you choose to rent for additional days, but you may get a discounted daily rate if you rent it for a whole week, which could cost up to $1,000. Once you've removed the insulation and are ready to replace it, the cost to rent a blown-in insulation machine ranges between $100 and $500.

Doubling the insulation in your home also doubles the R-value of said insulation. In other words, by adding more insulation, you can reduce the heat loss by half. Most homes benefit from increasing insulation. Older homes, in particular tend to have less insulation as is, so doubling your insulation could drastically reduce your energy bills, keep your home more comfortable, and take the strain off your HVAC system.

Rigid foam board insulation is one of the safest insulation materials for basement walls. The panels offer a moisture barrier to prevent mold and mildew build-up. At the same time, this material is also fire-resistant, so you don’t have to worry as much about a fire breaking out as you would with spray foam insulation.

Insulating a stone house is an expensive and involved process because it requires building a double-walled house. The walls don’t need to be the same thickness, but they both need to be thick enough to handle any structural demands and meet fire and safety standards. The insulation (usually foam or fiberglass) is then installed between the two stone walls.

A-frame houses pose specific challenges that can make heating difficult. Their open concept design with high ceilings can lead to a colder lower floor and a warmer upper floor. A ceiling fan that pushes warm air down or pulls cold air up, depending on the season, can easily counteract temperature issues. Additionally, certain types of heating do better in these homes than others. For example, heated floors tend to be more practical and energy efficient than baseboard heating.
