"Kobi and Michelle were the consummate professionals with an added personal touch in an above and beyond customer service. Kobi listened to our needs, answered questions and proposed a solution to upgrade our home computer network. Not only did he provide a very timely and accurate quote for the work to be done for the project, he was open and honest and was very reasonable. Michelle had the billing handled in a timely fashion with e-billing options that made working from a multi-state location easy and accurate. Kobi and Michelle both worked above and beyond the time projected when we ran into some issues with updating our internet system in a very complex house and were right on top of networking with our cable company when we had to update outdated equipment. I would highly recommend Amour and Kobi and Michelle for any home system work."

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

A home security system can be a worthwhile investment for several reasons. Financially, it may qualify you for a discount of up to 20% on your home insurance premiums, which can help offset the initial setup costs and any ongoing monitoring or subscription fees. For many, the primary benefit is the peace of mind that comes with enhanced security, especially for those living in areas with higher crime rates. Ultimately, whether a system is worth it depends on your personal preferences, the value of the assets you wish to protect, and your overall safety concerns.

Professional home automation services can include automation for nearly anything in your home, so the possibilities are endless. Some of the more common things homeowners use automation for include the following:

  • Heating and cooling for automatic comfort

  • Security cameras and emergency call systems

  • Door and window sensors to detect opening, closing, and break-ins

  • Solar system automation to maximize energy savings

  • Automatic door locks

  • Garage door openers

  • Speaker systems

  • Lighting

  • Appliances

  • Smoke and CO detectors

  • Blinds and other window coverings

  • Lawn irrigation systems

  • Water monitoring

You should always install cameras at exterior doors and windows. Other areas where you should place cameras are your front and back yards, the garage and driveway, common living areas, hallways and staircases, and the basement. Remember, you can start with a small Wi-Fi security camera system and always add more cameras if needed.

The best window alarm sensor depends on the type of window you’re concerned about since different types of sensors will work best in different scenarios. Many homes are equipped with contact sensors, which trigger an alarm when a window is opened, and each part of the sensor breaks contact with the other. But there are other options, too, like a glass break sensor or motion sensor, which both work well for windows that are in low-traffic areas.

There are a number of ways to secure windows. You can add motion detectors or window sensors to detect movement and impact or change the window locks to make them stronger. Some of the ways you can secure windows are much like how you secure a home: closing the curtains at night and setting up security cameras outside so you can monitor your property even in your absence.
