I called another chimney place first. They came out three times and the cap never fit. I told them never mind and called Hancock Chimney. They arrived at the appointment time with Hancock Shirts. They introduced themselves and got to work. After measuring for the cap size, they showed me a video of what my chimney looked like up there. Indeed the flashing was not done correctly. They said they would be back 2 weeks later when the cap was built. 2 weeks later an appt was made. Again they arrived at the appointed time and got right to work. The cap was installed and the flashing repaired. Then they went the extra step to finish the flashing in a way that is beautiful and exceed our expectations. It was on a super hot day as well. They cleaned everything up and left within the time table they gave. It was a pleasure to work with them. They did not come during the set time window. I called the following week to set another appt. I was told they came at a different time and the cost would be $200 to put a chimney cap on. I agreed and scheduled a date two weeks later. The technician showed up 30 minutes out of the 4 hour window and said he would not be able to do it because he did not have the correct size cap. The office called a few days later and said the special size i needed would be double and they would need a $200 deposit. She estimated 1 month for the special size to arrive. 6 weeks later we scheduled another install. This time, the technician arrived within the window, but still the cap was the wrong size. The estimate this time was an additional $100. Each time it was a different tech and I lost confidence in their ability to do the job. I called another company that was prompt and professional. I asked them to cancel and refund my money. Still have not seen the refund come through. I will have to deny the charge on my credit card."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/oh/northfield/chimney-cricket-inc-reviews-7714420.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"The Chimney Specialist LLC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MI","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Marge F."},"reviewBody":"Estimate: When the Chimney Specialist first came to give an estimate for unclogging a plugged chimney flue, he was informative, explaining how chimneys work, how chimney fires happen, and how he would fix the chimney; he also gave me what seemed to be a reasonable cost for a potentially tricky job. The chimney from the wood furnace in the basement was absolutely blocked. The question was - could he fix it with without tearing off the stone from the fireplace in the living room on the first floor?
Work: When he came to work on the chimney which went to a wood furnace in the basement, he first checked the second chimney which went to a first-floor wood burning unit. It was a good thing he did because that flue had cracked over the winter. So the job became more tricky. At that point he had to figure out how to break out both flues, then put one kind of pipe (zero clearance) down one chimney, and another kind (flexible steel) down other chimney. And, he needed to figure how to do it working via an attic access rather than going into the chimney from the living room and removing the face stone on the fireplace and then replacing it. When he ran into problems not of his own making (the first flexible steel liner he brought out was defective), he made sure that the next one he brought out was in prime shape Time and again he had to think “outside the box.” Thankfully he could do that. I would not hesitate to recommend him. He truly seemed to care about his customers. In addition, his helper was considerate, polite, and helpful."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/mi/grand-rapids/the-chimney-specialist-llc-reviews-6170299.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Home & Leisure Lifestyles, LLC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MI","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Angela C."},"reviewBody":"We have been using Home and Leisure Lifestyles for over 8 years now. They annually clean our woodstove and clean the chimney. I feel good knowing that I can trust them to let me know if they see a problem with our chimney or stove so it can be repaired. They leave a report card about our chimney on every visit and I keep these on record for my insurance company. When they come and clean the stove and chimney they are very meticulous and clean every little nook and cranny. The very first time we had them come out we just couldn't believe how detailed they were in cleaning. I didn't know there were so many pieces to my woodstove that would come out and need cleaned. They utilize protective throws to keep the area indoors clean when they maintain the woodstove inside. They automatically set us up with an annual appointment and contact us a couple of weeks prior to see if that date is fine or needs to be rescheduled. I highly recommend that anyone with a woodstove or fireplace use Home and Leisure Lifestyles for their chimney maintenance. FAQs for chimney cap service projects in Montague, MI
Chimney caps may be installed by a few different professionals, including a chimney sweep or a mason that specializes in fireplaces and chimneys. A gas fireplace technician is the best person to install a chimney cap on a gas log fireplace vent to be sure the cap is appropriate for the application.
A chimney cap costs about $300 on average. The prices range from about $75 to $1,000, depending on the material, size, any repairs needed, and if your chimney cap requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, copper, or stainless steel. Additional costs may include hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before a cap is installed.
Help reduce energy bills by helping regulate your home’s temperature
Typically, a chimney cap will last from three to 25 years. This wide range is due to variables like climate, the material the cap is made from, and how often you use your fireplace. Regular inspections and maintenance can help extend the life of your chimney cap.
The best style of chimney cap for a brick chimney is one that fits tightly around the brick top of the chimney. The cap should have a screen to fully enclose it to keep animals out. The best materials include stainless steel, copper, or aluminum that fit tightly or are custom fabricated for a perfect fit on your chimney.
