They were supposed to put up insulation and finish other work but did not. They are crooks. I paid them and they did not finish the work.

The work was scheduled promptly and the repair performed right on time. The faux chimney now looks great, and I'm glad that I won't have to try to rescue any more baby birds. The workers also advised me of some roof repair work that needed to be attended to--work not performed by their company--which I greatly appreciated.

For the price, I was underwhelmed. The workman spent about 5 minutes on each one and then the bill was about $300. I did have him clean and re position the logs in one fireplace (for another $100) and replace the batteries in a remote (at no charge), but I felt it was very expensive for the services rendered. I do not know if I would hire this company again.

Please, if you are reading this review just move to the next contractor and save yourself time, aggravation and money. They charged 127.33 only to tell me they could not preform the service which they quoted as 189. You read it right. I completely understand if they are trying to abide by some sort of federal code, but there was a question they could have asked when making the appt, and they could have explained it then, saving my time and money. Very unprofessional and dishonest. And when I called to speak to a manager he proceeded to tell me the same thing as his contractor and accuse me of lying. He said I was asked the question. Really? Yes, I hung up, so he called and left a voicemail saying I was disrespectful and they should have charged me more. Sorry, that’s so wordy, but I’m a little angry right now.
Response from Chimney Cricket Inc
"Ms. [Member Name Removed], when booking your appointment the lady asked if your wood stove had a liner and you replied yes it did. We also explained that if it did not have a liner we could not clean it due to the new Federal code and that we would have to just charge for an inspection and then give you an estimate for a chimney liner. You were charged $249 - $60 discount that you agreed to. We again several times while being cursed out tried to work things out before you threatened to let your dogs loose. Your review is not totally honest and very misleading in many ways but, again, we do and did apologize, we hope you're not burning in an unsafe situation because your insurance company will not cover you in case of a fire."

They called me the very day I left a message. (A+ for that). They offered 2 different appointment dates that very week. (Again A+) The service was set up for 9-11 AM but I got a call at 8:30 saying there were truck issues and would be running behind. (Still A+ because I was contacted early enough that I could choose to stay home and wait or choose another day). I chose to stick with the original day and just wait. The only reason I rated a B for punctuality was because as the day progressed I didn't get an update call as to when I could expect them. Come 4:00 PM I was in the midst of leaving a voice mail when the truck pulled up. He was so pleasant and sorry for the delay. He quickly got the job done and I feel it was worth the wait.

I advise you run, don't walk. The sweep tried to sell me several services which I did not need as I found out later with a second opinion. His office e-mailed me a proposal for $4,000 worth of work which was totally uncalled for. The second opinion revealed I wasn't told the facts. As far as the sweep work, he left a bit of a mess, forgot to vacuum the floor and left his glove. I had to clean up after including the glass doors.

It went pretty well. The forecast on the original date of service called for rain, and I called to see if it would still take place, about an hour/hour and a half prior to the scheduled time. I called the number I had and they said they would call if they were going to need to cancel, then reschedule. After the guy arrived for the job, a little bit into the job in he determined he couldn't do the job that day due to the forecast/what the sky was looking like. We were able to reschedule for a few days later with no issue (between me and the technician). There wasn't any extra cost to reschedule the job.

I'm a repeat customer, who continues to be impressed by Chimney Cricket's professionalism, quality and integrity--from start to finish. I was treated like a valued customer from the time of my phone call to schedule the appointment, to the technician's visit (He was courteous, knowledgeable and conscientious.), to the final electronic copy of the invoice, accompanied by a thank you from the Office Manager. The charge was less than the original quote because the camera showed that no cleaning was necessary. And, thanks to the inspection, we have peace of mind using the fireplace this winter.

Scheduling was pretty poor, with serious communication drops and failures, within the organization. In the end the workers they sent were adequate. The main mason was fairly skilled and responsive to our desires, if not pleased with our suggestions. The secondary worker was not skilled nor very helpful. On the whole the hearth looks good, not "terrific". I had to finish one area of drywall they left unfinished, and unpainted, and had to touch up several areas. They were contracted to complete all finish work. My tools had to be used to complete the job, as the worker did not follow a good plan and was left having to correct tile areas (which all should have been installed after the hearth was built, we felt, not before the hearth was started). His tools and skills would have left a pretty unfinished look to the project. BUT, he did respond to our suggestions and was able to pretty much finish the job. He was , for the most part, though overbooked by his employer, able to nearly complete the job in a satisfactory manner. Due to their inability to get the products they were to install, we are still waiting for completion of the fireplace refacing internally.

They were late, they gave me a date for when the work would be done, and hadn't even started the work by that time! They never finished the work, walked away from it. My walls are still exposed, door doesn't hang correctly, the foundation work that they did is crooked. They charged me for 22 feet, but only did 16. I was charged for blown in insulation that I never received. The office staff was awful. They wanted all of the payment up front before finishing the work and for me to sign off that I was satisfied. The work still isn't completed and they blamed the city for that. They didn't pick up the permits until after 4 pm the Friday before they were supposed to start the work. I paid the deposit in September, they were supposed to start in November. They had plenty of time to get the permit. I was told they were going to give me a discount for starting late, it never happened.

"Job was started on the dated customer was given - had some delays with building dept., but got the work completed. Job is done, but for minor touch up details and The City of Warrensville Heights was out and passed the work that we did. We have a copy of that report. Sadly customer will not give us a date to take care of her minor issues and refuses to pay the balance due to us."

Soot disaster after pellet stove cleaning!
We have Chimney Cricket for a few years and were satisfied with their service.
I called last fall to have my chimney, wood burning stove and a pellet stove clean.
I specifically get the price quoted for the type of stoves that we had which cost more and I though that was fair.
When the first technician arrived he quickly realized the kind of stove he is dealing would required two person to work on.
We reschedule the appoint a week later. Two technician arrived.
The chimney and wood burning stove cleaning in kitchen area went smoothly. They then proceed to work on our pellet stove in the living room and it seems that they are not familiar with how to clean the pellet stove.
After about an hour of work they were done. We were given a bill that was a hundred dollars more than what they had quoted. I protested and finally we arrived at the original price quoted to me.
A day later, my kids noticed the piano key was covered with "black stuff", we were puzzled but then quickly realized there were soot all over the living room! (coffee table, couch, wall, furniture, curtain.....) We spend two days to wipe everything down. We called professional carpet and furniture cleaner (cost almost $800) to get everything somewhat clean. The soot didn't quite settle for another two weeks. We called the company, show them pictures. The person on the phone told my wife to send them the cleaning bill and they will "see what they can do".
Well, nothing happen.
Response from Chimney Cricket Inc
"After we received the customers complaint, we offered to pay half of the cleaning bill & requested the customer send us a copy of the bill. We have yet to receive a bill or any other communication from the customer."
