"Gary is very knowledgeable in his field of expertise. He is also extremely respectful and very punctual. He is quick to respond with both text and phone calls. His quote was fast and very reasonable. He has his calendar available to make your appointment. Gary is also a very hard worker and cleans up after completing the job. It s like you never knew he was there. We spoke about several projects that I need accomplished and l definitely will hire him again. One of the biggest is he is licensed and insured. All around he is the best."

"Kevin showed up as per schedule. This is where it got interesting. He told me upfront that the house is new (my house is less than 3 years old)and it looks pretty clean. It was refreshing to see an honest and upfront professional who is willing to provide an honest assessment even though it is counter productive for him. We agreed to postpone the washing to next year and that is the reason, he could not provide the service. Not only will I go to Kevin for any service he provides in the future, I am also going to recommend Kevin to all my friends.

"My experience with Dennis was fantastic! Not only did they do an incredible job at cleaning my gutters, while on site, he had some concerns about my roof. He called me and took pictures to document the damage of my roof so I could engage the appropriate resource. Fortunately, my roof is under warranty, but I would have had no idea there was an issue had Dennis not said something. It certainly shows the type of person he is to express concern and document accordingly. Outside of that, the gutters look fantastic and he resolved that issue for me. They did a great job cleaning up after the job as well and was provided before and after pictures of my gutters. Going forward, I will have Dennis/B&D out annually to clean my gutters and intend to use him to clean/stain my deck in the next year or two. I highly recommend them."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You typically don’t need a railing and handrails on a deck that’s less than 30 inches from the ground. However, consider adding them regardless. Railings provide additional safety for you and your guests who use your deck—plus, railings give the deck a more finished look than it would have without them.

That depends on the condition of your deck. An older deck that looks drab, worn, or has multiple damaged boards might be worth replacing before selling. However, if your deck is in good condition, you can simply clean, repaint, or stain it.

Yes, adding railing to a deck is a great way to improve safety and your home’s aesthetic appeal. Railings can be constructed from wood, metal, or composite, and there are plenty of choices regarding design and style. Always consult local building codes before starting any building project—there are often requirements regarding spacing and height that can differ slightly from place to place.

The best material for your deck depends on several factors, including your budget, location, aesthetic preferences, and the level of maintenance you’re willing to do. Wood decking, like redwood, ipe, cedar, and pine, lasts the longest, but it’s more expensive and requires more upkeep than composite and synthetic decking.

A deck that isn’t attached to a house is called a floating or freestanding deck. These standalone decks are built near ground level, so they usually don’t need deck stairs. Some don’t even require permits. Generally speaking, building a floating deck is faster and more DIY-friendly than constructing one that’s connected to your home.
