Customers say: True professional

"Jim was punctual, professional and was able to accommodate my request in a short period of time. He did an excellent job on my deck and even went over and beyond to make a few minor repairs. I would definitely hire this company to do additional painting in the future."

Emergency services offered

"I recently hired Active Home Savers to power wash my house, and I couldnâ t be happier with the results.   The team arrived on time and was super friendly. They explained the process, which I appreciated. The power washing was amazingâ dirt and grime were gone in no time. The sidewalks, walls, and entryways looked almost brand new.   What impressed me most was their attention to detail. They made sure every corner was spotless and even took care of stubborn stains.   After they finished, the property looked fresh and clean. The team did a fantastic job cleaning up. I highly recommend Active Home Savers for anyone needing power washing services. The results speak for themselves"

"We utilized a special offer we found on Angie's List to get the carpeting cleaned and deck washed and restrained.  Our technician arrived when he said he would and finished the carpet cleaning within a couple of hours.  The cleaning was well done.  They had to come back for the deck, and shortly after we prepped the deck (we had to remove the old stain), Fresh Start Cleaning Pros was out again to power wash and seal the deck.  Everything was done professionally and we were treated very well by all of the staff with whom we had contact.  I would definitely recommend this company.

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

For a 12x20-foot (240-square-foot) deck, you can expect to pay between $7,200 and $14,400. This cost is based on a general price of $30 to $60 per square foot. The final price will depend on factors such as the decking material, design complexity, deck type, location, and local labor costs. Keep in mind that add-ons will increase the total; for example, adding an under-deck drainage system to a deck of this size could cost an additional $7,700.

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.

Building a deck isn't too hard if you’re handy with carpentry, have the necessary tools, and are willing to put effort into it. However, other factors, such as plans, permits, and design, can be hard if you don’t have experience in those areas.

Note: You’ll need another person to help you build the deck (especially for framing and setting the beams). Building a deck yourself will be very difficult if you don’t have an extra set of hands to help.

You typically don’t need a railing and handrails on a deck that’s less than 30 inches from the ground. However, consider adding them regardless. Railings provide additional safety for you and your guests who use your deck—plus, railings give the deck a more finished look than it would have without them.

Choices include wood, composite, and hardwoods, each with unique benefits.
