Small jobs welcome

"I hired DDH Painting to clean and stain two decks at our home. They did an excellent job cleaning the deck prior to staining. They use name brand stain (Sherwin Williams), so I not only had a reputable product being put on my deck, I was also able to find the perfect color from the many options in the Sherwin Williams line. The crew worked efficiently, cleaned up afterwards, and left me with two beautiful looking decks."

"Amazing!  He was on time, on the day he said, the price was amazing, he pointed out additional things he could help me with .  He was friendly, promised to come back and take care of it.  I really appreciated his professionalism, promptness and courtesy.  I plan to have him back any time I need this type of work done and would recommend him to friends and family.

"We are so pleased with the work quality Liendel power washing company did on our house. We have never washed down our house in over 15 years and it showed it. It seriously looks like we just got siding done on our home. The trim on our home and soffits were white again! They also did a small deck in front that was full of mold and moss and it looks fantastic! Not only was the work good but the crew was very polite, knowledgeable and professional. We are already scheduling for this company to come back and work on our other decks. We would highly recommend them"

Deck Cleaning FAQs, answered by experts

It is possible to pressure wash your deck, but it’s usually best to leave the work to a professional for two main reasons. First, power washers are expensive, and you can avoid high upfront costs by hiring a deck washing pro instead. Second, you must be careful to use the correct setting to avoid damaging your deck material. You can only clean soft woods like pine with a wide spray and a low pressure; otherwise, the water will leave unpleasant marks on your deck. Hard woods, composite material, and metal can stand up to increasingly higher water pressures.

In many areas, a floating deck that isn’t connected to your home and stays under 200 square feet and below 30 inches in height may not need a permit. These freestanding structures are often considered low-risk, which can simplify the building process. However, building codes vary greatly based on location. Before investing in any home improvement project, check with your local permitting office for deck-building guidelines.

Yes, pressure washing a wood deck can be a good idea as it effectively lifts ingrained dirt, mold, and mildew, improving the deck's appearance and longevity. However, it must be done carefully, as it's easy to damage the wood, especially softwoods. To pressure wash safely, use a lower pressure setting and a wide, 40-degree fan pattern nozzle (often white). Keep the nozzle at least a foot away from the wood surface and maintain constant motion, avoiding hovering in one spot to prevent gouging.

Many people say the best composite decking is Trex, TimberTech, or Fiberon. These brands have formulated composite deck boards to withstand the elements and hold up over time. Each offers a range of product lines varying in durability, price, and appearance. Compare their different composite decking offers for cost, looks, and features before deciding on a product.

Both deck footings and deck posts help prop up your deck. However, footings are the bottommost parts of a deck that touch the ground. They’re usually made of concrete. Posts are pieces of wood that attach to the top of the footings with brackets. They run upwards and connect to the underside of your deck to support its weight.
