"We have American Home Shield warranty. We did have some plumbing and electrical work done. I have no idea who the service was because we did it through the home warranty. They have a $75 deductible for everything. American Home Shield has been great, definitely A across the board. The $75 deductible seemed great for cost and professionalism. They have a web site, Hub, where you can request service and everything, so A across the board for them. They are punctual and they cover the range of plumbing and - they cover a lot of issues with the home so I can always go to them if anything goes wrong, from plumbing to electrical to appliances. They've got me covered across the board."

"There were many things wrong in my computer (my fault and letting grandchildren on computer) Robert was so helpful, gave me many good instructions to keep everything safe, which I have written down, feel like I have a new computer. He was so excellent and experienced, took his time and was meticulous about what needed to be done. He was a pleasure to work with and I will use this company again! Linda Disy"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Before beginning electrical work in Manistique, confirm permit requirements and allow extra time for processing, as local inspector availability can be limited. Plan projects for late spring through early fall to avoid weather delays. Always check for proper grounding, especially in older homes, and inspect for asbestos in panels. Locate underground utility lines and schedule inspections early to keep your project on track.

Helpful?

In Manistique, frequent power outages, flickering lights during snow or ice, or visible water near outlets signal the need for electrical work. Inspect your system each spring for winter damage and again in fall before heating season. Homes with original wiring from before 1950 should be updated promptly, and annual electrical inspections are recommended due to the region’s harsh weather conditions.

Helpful?

In Manistique, electrical panels often need updates due to aging systems, especially in homes built before 1970. Basements and crawl spaces are vulnerable to moisture from Lake Michigan, which can corrode wiring. Outdoor outlets and lighting suffer from winter exposure, while kitchens and bathrooms may lack modern GFCI outlets. Heating system wiring also requires regular checks due to heavy winter use in the Upper Peninsula.

Helpful?

To make electrical projects safer for families in Manistique, use tamper-resistant outlets and install GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, and garages, which are prone to moisture from snow and lake effect. Elevate outlets above baseboard level to deter pets, and use cord covers to prevent chewing. Upgrading grounding and adding arc-fault circuit interrupters is especially important in older, wood-framed homes typical of the area.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Manistique, choose moisture-resistant wire like THWN-2 and corrosion-resistant panels to handle humidity and temperature swings. Use copper wiring for reliability, and select weatherproof covers rated for snow loads on outdoor outlets. Ensure underground cables are rated for the local frost line depth. Local suppliers can help you find components suited to the area’s climate and common home construction.
