"This company is obviously nationwide and hires local contractors.  I trusted Agies List that all contractors are licensed, bonded and have background checks.  This person was a handyman and not qualified to wall mount, conceal wires, add electrical outlet.  He  spend five hours in my home, for a job that should have taken two hours and left the area in a disaster.  The TV was hung close to the ceiling, the wires were hanging down from the TV, and the receiver was sitting on top of a plaster box because the cord was too short.  He was obviously not qualified to install TV wall mounts.  I have photos.    As soon as he left, I called Best Buy Geek Squad.  They were able to come out the next day and mount the TV professionally.  I have used the geek squad in Virginia and they are highly qualified.  They charge more than this nationwide company but you get what you pay for.  I called Angies List the day after the disaster and said i did not want to rate this company but I wanted to talk to a manager. No one called me to apologize. I have cancelled my membership.  Do not use this company unless you can be assured that the local contractor is qualified and is licensed.  You should never let anyone into your home that has not had background checks.

"We have American Home Shield warranty. We did have some plumbing and electrical work done. I have no idea who the service was because we did it through the home warranty. They have a $75 deductible for everything. American Home Shield has been great, definitely A across the board. The $75 deductible seemed great for cost and professionalism. They have a web site, Hub, where you can request service and everything, so A across the board for them. They are punctual and they cover the range of plumbing and - they cover a lot of issues with the home so I can always go to them if anything goes wrong, from plumbing to electrical to appliances. They've got me covered across the board."

"There were many things wrong in my computer (my fault and letting grandchildren on computer) Robert was so helpful, gave me many good instructions to keep everything safe, which I have written down, feel like I have a new computer. He was so excellent and experienced, took his time and was meticulous about what needed to be done. He was a pleasure to work with and I will use this company again! Linda Disy"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When planning electrical work in Lewiston, consider local permit requirements and ensure your project meets Michigan’s state code. Contractor availability may be limited, so schedule ahead. If your property has a well, septic system, or RV hookups, plan for those specific electrical needs. The rural power grid can be less reliable, so consider backup solutions and coordinate with available internet or cable services for seamless connectivity.

Helpful?

Lewiston’s heavy snow, ice storms, and deep winter freezes can delay outdoor electrical work and make trenching challenging. Spring’s freeze-thaw cycles may cause shifting or water intrusion in basements, affecting electrical systems. Summer storms and humidity increase the need for surge protection and GFCI outlets. Fall is the best time for major projects before winter. Year-round, the rural grid is more prone to weather-related outages, so robust systems are important.

Helpful?

Electrical maintenance in Lewiston should include annual inspections of outdoor outlets and wiring, especially after freeze-thaw cycles that can damage insulation. Check service entrances for snow or ice buildup and monitor basements for humidity that can affect electrical panels. Test generators monthly and service them before winter. Watch for rodent damage, as local wildlife can chew wires, and trim trees near lines to reduce storm-related outages.

Helpful?

In Lewiston, electrical projects that affect heating systems, sump pumps, or generators should be addressed before winter due to harsh weather and frequent outages. Prioritize repairs impacting safety, like exposed wiring or malfunctioning outlets, since rural response times can be longer. Non-essential upgrades, such as decorative lighting or minor fixture changes, can typically wait until after peak tourist season or when weather conditions are more favorable.

Helpful?

In Lewiston, prioritize tamper-resistant outlets to prevent curious kids and pets from accidental shocks, especially in older homes. Secure outdoor outlets and wiring to deter local wildlife like squirrels and mice from causing hazards. Install GFCI outlets in damp areas such as basements and bathrooms. Before leaving seasonal homes, double-check all safety features. For generators, use transfer switches and place carbon monoxide detectors nearby for added protection.
