Alpine took our storm-wrecked jungle and turned it into a fully cut, trimmed, root balls removed, wood chipped or burned or removed, and smoothed and grass-seeded landscape, all within a couple short weeks of our devastating storm. Malcolm also went above and beyond in doing extras that were not part of his bid, but which were very helpful to us, and he did not increase his price. If you’re looking to rot a tree stump fast, potassium nitrate will work far quicker than copper nails. First, drill several holes into the stump using a power drill, then pour potassium nitrate pellets into the holes. Next, add water to help the chemical absorb into the wood, thoroughly soaking the stump to ensure the pellets dissolve and spread evenly. Afterward, cover the stump with a tarp to retain moisture and block sunlight, then place mulch on top to secure it in place.

If the tree is very small—under 4 or 5 inches in diameter—and you’re experienced handling a chainsaw, you may be able to cut down the tree on your own, provided there’s plenty of room for it to fall. 

However, felling even small trees can be dangerous, and it’s always advisable to have a spotter on hand. This will help make sure the tree doesn’t fall the wrong way or that branches aren’t about to fall on you while you’re working.
