"Got a quote from Scott Ballard. I also received competing quotes from other service providers. Home Spec was the highest bid (although all of the bids were close in price). I chose to go with HomeSpec based upon reviews from Angie's List and other online resources. My home is small so the job only took two days to complete. The crew that did the job was lead by Ryan Loop and his crew did an excellent job! They filled three cracks in the foundation walls, and installed a new perimeter drainage system using PVC drain pipe and a sump pump. Prior to the install I had some questions that were answered to my satisfaction by Scott. While the work was being done Ryan answered some more questions I had about the sump pump system as I have never lived in a home that has had a sump pump. I am very pleased with the finished work. When Ryan's crew put in new cement in the basement where the floor had been removed, they did an excellent job in finishing the cement to a level and smooth surface."

"Jerrod Thomason, the owner of Superior Home Building, did a complete remodel of our house including a new addition. He did the work while we spent the winter in FL. I contacted him based on the outstanding reviews on Angie's list. We did not meet him until the job was well under way. Everything was done by phone, email, and FaceTime. We couldn't have been more pleased with the result. I would recommend Jerod for any job. He was outstanding!! Our job included: new roof, new siding, new gutters & down spouts, replace all windows, new flooring, new lighting and electrical, new plumbing, seal walls and waterproof basement, paint every room and ceiling in the house. Also a complete remodel of the kitchen, bathroom, utility room, closets, and an addition which included a large new bathroom, walk-in closet and storage area. Use Superior Home Building you won't regret it!!"

"They are professional and thorough, but there is really no wiggle room if you would like something differently done. Choices in booklet are pretty basic, not a lot of options (for flooring types, door style, trim) This company is like the Anderson Windows of basements. (No doubt they spend a lot on advertising; There is a reason they are the top result when searching!) Expect to pay quite a bit more than you planned, but I knew if I chose them it would be done and warrantied for everything. Sometimes you just want to sign and not worry, and I would definitely pick Finished basements plus if you are in that situation and have the budget."

"The helical piers were outside installation requiring 6 foot deep trenches about 6 feet wide around 2 rooms. He was exceptionally careful with the entire job, around wires, sprinkler system, walls, and landscaping. He did a very thorough job -- knows his stuff exceptionally well. Took care to compact the ground around the walls for several hours. tarped the area to assure it was dry while work was in progress. Brought in several yards of topsoil to regrade landscaped area dug up during project work. Carbon-kevlar strapping was a "re-do" from a different contractor. Russ brought in the manufacturer of the Fortress Strapping business to evaluate previous work done and the repair necessary to make the walls structurally sound. He also insured the foundation was tied into the house frame with 90 degree steel bars. He was "on the job," supervised his crew, only came to the job when the steel helical piers were in his warehouse so work could progress quickly as long as it was dry. I trust Russ to do anything with a foundation that needs to be done. I also had him inspect a new home's basement to insure it was safe and stable. He is the best in the foundation business."

Small jobs welcome

"One Saturday I had schedule 3 estimates for a new front porch, needless to say Dominik was the only contractor showed up and with a big smile. We immediately connected after small talking and he got the job. The price and the work was good and Dominik was so nice he replaced my mulch. He has gained customers from the job well done of my new front porch."

House Leveling questions, answered by experts

Charges correlate with surface size, settlement depth, and access, often yielding significant savings over concrete replacement.

Many contractors offer warranties for their work. Confirm terms before starting the project.

Yes, expanding foam (also known as polyurethane foam) can lift concrete. This approach, called polyjacking, involves injecting the foam rather than concrete slurry to fill voids and raise the concrete slab back into place. It’s often faster and requires smaller drill holes than traditional mudjacking, though it may come at a higher cost. Some contractors also prefer polyjacking over mudjacking for more damaged and delicate slabs.

Yes, you can mudjack cracked concrete, but the cracks will need to be repaired once the concrete has been leveled. If the concrete is severely cracked in multiple places, replacement may be a better option, but for less severe cracking, mudjacking is a good solution as long as cracks are correctly caulked and sealed.

Mudjacking typically takes 24 to 72 hours (one to three days) to dry and cure completely before you can resume normal use. The exact time can vary depending on the size of the project. Because the slurry mixture contains cement, it must fully harden to ensure that added weight from walking, furniture, or vehicles won't shift the concrete slab. A professional contractor can advise you on when the surface is safe to use. For comparison, if you use polyjacking instead, the polyurethane foam can dry in just a few minutes, but it's best to wait about an hour before use.
