A house has two main water shut-off valves. One water valve location is inside the house. If your home is connected to a municipal water supply, you’ll find it on the perimeter of the house on the side that faces the street. If your home uses well water, that valve could come in from any side. The other main valve is near where your property meets the street.

Sometimes a leaky faucet is simply the fault of a washer gone bad. Follow these steps to change the washer:

  • Shut off the water to the faucet

  • Remove the screw and handle

  • Remove the packing nut and washers

  • Clean and replace washers 

  • Reinstall the packing nut and handle

Dripping misters are a sign that the nozzles or holes in the tubing have some problems. Try flushing your system thoroughly. If your drain doesn’t have metal crosshairs or crossbars, you should use a tub drain extractor. These tools create a grip on the drain so you can turn it using a 1/2-inch ratchet drive, drain key, or wrench. Your drain may not have crosshairs if it's old and broken.
