"Marygrove Awning was very responsive to my first inquiry. It was mid November when I first contacted them and we we had a very tight time frame that the new awning cover needed to be installed. Our awning is over the front of our business and is in a historic district. We could not have the old retractable frame removed and replaced with a newer type. Understandably , the company could not guarantee their work on the existing frame. Not having a guarantee concerned me but under the circumstance we had no choice. The day of installation was bitterly cold and windy. Two workers showed up on time and worked steadily in the bitter cold on a piece of equipment (our old awning frame) they previously had very little if any experience with. I was very impressed with how well they worked. It works beautifully 8 months later and we are pleased. I highly recommend MaryGrove Awning. If you have an old retractable frame like ours this firm is able to step up and take care of the situation. The two guys who worked that very cold rainy day on a very old piece of equipment should be very proud of the job they did.

I’m 36 year old, have been doing mainly industrial maintenance the past 6 years or so. Love fixing and putting together all kinds of different things. Not as experienced with home improvements but I have done my fair share, and am never afraid to take on a challenge. I can say that no matter what you throw at me, I will find a way to complete the job and make sure the customer is satisfied.

They were prompt, the sales was low-pressure, the door itself was lifetime warranted, and the install was smooth.  After the install they cleaned up the mess and remove the old door.  Because the door was lifetime warranted, All Weather Seal has come out to repair it in the past, and has always been as professional as ever.  An excellent company, I have used them to replace all of my windows as well. Highly recommended!

The first day they partially power washed, removed the bricks that were compromised by the tree and worked on the chimney.  So far, so good.  Then they rebuilt the patio after removing the tree roots, started on the step, resanded both front and back.  We had a dispute over the shape of the step and I called the supervisor.  We expected a match to the step in the front of our house, but it was a different shape, and as it turned out, they used different paver and stone material.  While we were on errands, they left (apparently thinking they were finished) but we didn't know if we were supposed to wash off the pavers or walk on them before the sand set up, etc.  I called the salesman (Dan) who was coming by to collect the balance.  He said the sand should set up and he would check on it as well as the step. The sand did not set up so they came back two more times to resand, each time not successful.  The step was not addressed while they concentrated on trying to correct the sanding problem.  The owner, Barry, did come out on a Sunday to try to correct the sanding problem, still not successful.  We did appreciate him taking personal time to help us out.  However, the sand continued to wash out.  The job started in late September, 2013, and continued throughout October.  Each time I had to initiate the contact, calling the office to remind them that we were still waiting to have this concluded.  I would call the office, Barry or Dan on their cells.  To Dan's credit, he always responded, but mostly just to punt to Barry.  As we were getting into Fall, the weather did interrupt their ability to repair the work and then in November, the weather was too cold.  At that time, I talked with Barry who said he fully intended to complete the job but with the weather, they would have to put it on the schedule in the Spring (2014) when the temperature was in the 60's. This Spring I called the office twice to find out when they were coming out (no call backs) then a 3rd time, I was able to talk with Barry on his cell.  He said he is aware of what needs to be done but is waiting for the weather to clear (rain).  However, it is now the first of July and the job is not complete.  We wonder if other jobs have been completed - closer to their office - while we wait.

We would really like to resolve this amicably.  We think a good resolution would be a return of our money for the sanding/sealing process and the step.  But if they can complete this soon, to our satisfaction, that would be acceptable. And we would consider a review change.  We don't like giving anyone a negative review if there is an inclination to make things right in a timely manner.  But we are out of patience; it has been now almost a year. We do have pictures of the work that was done if needed.

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

Hurricane fabric is a temporary form of hurricane protection that offers an alternative to boarding up windows or installing traditional storm panels. Unlike hurricane screens, which are permanently attached to your home, hurricane fabric is installed over your windows and other openings before a storm.

In terms of effectiveness, hurricane fabric is tested and proven to protect homes from Category 5 hurricanes, which can have winds over 157 miles per hour. When installed properly, it is designed to block the majority of wind and rain and protect against water, debris, and projectile damage.

While the fabric is exceptionally durable, windows can still break if hit directly by flying debris at high velocity. However, it is a good protective measure against an impending storm. For comparison, hurricane fabric is more protective and durable than hurricane window film. While boarding up windows is easier than installing the fabric, it is more labor-intensive and requires storing heavy plywood.

To further increase the chances of your windows surviving a hurricane, you can take additional steps like securing outdoor items, elevating HVAC units, and fortifying your home's foundation.

Yes, you can replace just the fabric on an awning without having to replace the entire awning frame and hardware. This process will take a professional about one to two hours. If you want to DIY, it could take longer, especially for large or retractable awnings. Replacing the fabric on an awning can improve the look of your home and help naturally cool your interior and exterior spaces.

A covered deck can be a good investment that increases your home value—especially if you live in a hot region with a lot of sun. A covering over the deck means you can get more use out of it, even on the hottest summer days. With a permanent deck covering, you can even add ceiling fans to help cool down your deck for added comfort.

There are many materials to choose from, including picket fencing, wood slats, galvanized metal skirting, dog-ear fence panels, scallop wood fence panels, bamboo screens, and other decorative screens. You can search for materials at local big box stores like Home Depot or scour online home improvement sites. Good search terms to use are fencing, skirting, and privacy panels.

Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:

  • Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire

  • Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning

  • Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings

  • Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust

  • Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option

  • Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage
