"Had them come out for a fluctuating water pressure. They came to the conclusion that it was my pressure tank. I had them put it in 4 years ago so it was under warranty. Still cost me $750 for labor under warranty to put in a new one. WOW. They said the old one was no longer available so they tried to get me to pay the $197 difference between the old tank and new one. I voiced my opinion and they did cover the difference. Fast forward 2 days and the problem is still not fixed. Water is still fluctuating and I’m out $750. Was it the tank really?"

Signs your electric water heater is failing include inconsistent water temperature, reduced hot water supply, longer heating times, or discolored water (rusty or cloudy). Unusual noises like popping or rumbling suggest sediment buildup, while leaks or corrosion around the tank signal structural damage. If your unit is over 10 to 15 years old and experiencing frequent issues, it may be time to replace it.

The only case they wouldn’t have separate expansion tanks is if the boiler is pulling double duty and managing a heating system while also supplying hot water for a home. The chemicals in a water softener can wear down the anode rod in the heater and shorten its life span. However, for most people, the benefits of the softener outweigh this potential drawback.

Have a plumber inspect the anode rod annually for damage, as replacing the anode rod is far less expensive than replacing the entire water heater.
