I initially hired Yassa to repair ductwork. He said he could install the heat pump as well (air handler and condenser). Along with that, he said he did electrical work and would replace my electrical panel to accommodate the new mechanicals. I supplied the panel. He also said he could wire the tankless water heater. I was very excited to finally find someone that would install a heat pump (Mr. Cool) that I jumped to accept the electrical work he said he could do as well. Yassa and his helper MJ, who has his own HVAC company MJ Heating and Cooling, came in 3 days, 11am-4/4:30. Charging me $5,000, he initially asked for a check before starting work. I suggested half after the first day of work. He agreed. Against my better judgment, when he asked for another check before finishing the work on the second day, I gave it to him. Why I would not use him or his helper MJ again: -smokes indoors, basement littered with butts -did not use putty to seal the hole for the line set in the cement foundation -did not seal ductwork joints with tape, left gaps in duct joints -reused old sheet metal to repair ductwork -MJ is very unprofessional. Had a tantrum, yelling at me, and later on, in Arabic, about me, to Yassa. Add to the tantrum, throwing things in the basement when I bought wiring for their electrical work. He wanted to charge another $250. -did not know to change the wiring to/from meter to 200amp. destroying the meter -put the drainpipe in the wrong place blocking the filter from being replaced Yassa did return to move the drainpipe after several calls. At that time I showed him the burned-out meter. He then confessed he was not an electrician nor was MJ (the one who did most of the electrical work). I did remind him, he told me he could do the work. My comment was met with a facial shrug, of sorts. So, now I have to find and pay another person, an actual electrician, to do the job right. In addition to that, I am pretty sure the air handler was not installed correctly. His instructions on using the heat pump where the heat strip will come on first to provide heat. In actuality, the heat strip is only supposed to be used when auxiliary heat is needed. His instructions would give me mile-high electric bills! I have the feeling as long as Yassa and MJ stay with what they know, the typical furnace/ac setup, its smooth sailing. If not, its a complete nightmare.
