"Called right away and set up appt. For later that day. Very likable young man. Explained what he did and quoted a price. It was a little high at first but he was coming 80 miles away. Explained the problem after inspection and fixed problem areas after we okayed. Offered to show us the problem but we can't get in crawl space so he took pictures to show us. He located the places where mice were getting in and cemented and used other means to seal off the problem areas. Left traps for any mice still in there. Hopefully this will solve problem for good and we won't have to have someone returning as Orkin time after time and problem continued. Would recommend this company for sure. Also said he would come back if we noticed the problem soon after he had been here."

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

Using chemicals with harsh odors is a natural way to repel bears. While the animal’s strong sense of smell is an asset in the animal kingdom, it’s a weakness here. Simply place bleach or ammonia in a bucket and leave it outside day or night. Ironically, bears also dislike the smell of pine, so you can use pine oil or a pine-based cleaning agent. Avoid using cleaning products with fruit or citrus smells, however.

Contact pest control if you have a stink bug infestation that you need to eliminate quickly. It’s difficult to kill them without crushing them and releasing their signature odor, or without using a toxic insecticide. Some homeowners have had luck with peppermint oil sprays or soapy water traps. But a professional exterminator will have the best advice and course of action.

Yes, mulch can attract pests. Spiders, centipedes, and ants are some common pests that are attracted to mulch. You can avoid infestation by laying your bags of mulch in the heat for a few hours or by using an inorganic mulch, as it’s less attractive to pests.

To keep wasps away from your home, you can consult with an exterminator about preventative measures and potential follow-up visits. For a non-lethal approach, consider installing a fake wasp nest, as this can deter wasps from building their own nearby. You can also use natural repellents. Wasps dislike the smell of substances like coffee grounds, cinnamon, and vinegar. Additionally, planting certain plants in your garden or in pots near doors can help repel them; these include eucalyptus, peppermint, lemongrass, and basil.

Roaches may not be quite as common on the top floors of a home, but they can easily climb up there if they want to. Second stories are less likely to have food sources and somewhat less likely to have moisture issues, so most roaches are attracted to bottom levels first. However, humid attics and similar spots can help roaches thrive.
