"Lee performed a chimney inspection/cleaning in our recently purchased home. He was seriously one of the friendliest people I've ever met. He gave me a full step by step overview of his inspection and discussed any of my concerns and gave terrific advise. Basically both of our chimney crowns looked pretty shabby and I wasn't sure if we'd make it through the winter without roof/ceiling problems. Lee showed me exactly what to and gave me a great quote to rebuild both chimneys when funding permitted. I for sure plan to schedule this further work in the coming months. Great guy/great experience!

"We contracted with JAM Home Services (Jeff) to repair and paint walls, ceilings and closets in the living/dining room and 3 bedrooms of our house. We also asked about installing base board where missing/damaged and also installing shoe molding in all rooms (we had just had carpeting removed and hardwood floors refinished), While his was not lowest estimate for the project, we were impressed with his knowledge, suggestions for successful completion and his professionalism. At our request, he suggested several colors that would work with the hardwood floors. We agreed on a start date, which had to be firm, to meet a specific timeline to place our house on the market. A week before start date, he checked in with us to be sure we still on schedule. As it happened, other projects were already completed, so he started a week earlier than planned and completed the project withing the 4 days he had originally estimated. We could not have been more pleased with the result! Each day, the work space was cleared and cleaned, except for drop cloths left to protect floors. He repaired a baseball-sized hole in the wall in one bedroom, repaired a crack in the plaster above a door in the living room, filled all nail holes. The paint on all ceilings, wall and closets was smooth and even - no messy corners or bleeding edges. The new base boards and and shoe molding were such great enhancements to the rooms. We highly recommend JAM Home Services for anyone with home repair or improvement project needs!"

"This was our 2nd project with Craig after having our basement refinished. Our new crown moldings have lightening above that reflects onto the ceiling. It makes the rooms look more elegant. The kitchen had ugly multi colored back splash we inherited when we purchased the house. Now, the marble back splash reflects the quality of our home in general. All craftmenship work was done at a fair price and until we were fully satisfied.Craig's workers are the best from professionalism, skill to timeliness from start to finish. We are now finalizing plans on a screened porch with a stamped concrete floor that will blend in with the home and look like it's always been there. I have complete confidence in knowing they finish our jobs completely before moving on to another one."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

In most cases, it is worth removing popcorn ceilings because they are considered outdated and can make a home more difficult to sell. Buyers typically prefer a smooth, modern finish, so removing the texture can increase a home's value and appeal. The necessity can sometimes depend on the housing market; in a competitive market, buyers may be more willing to overlook minor renovations. The most critical factor is the potential presence of asbestos, which is common in older popcorn ceilings and poses a significant health hazard if the material deteriorates. If you know your ceiling contains asbestos, you are required to disclose this when selling, which can be a major deterrent for buyers. In this situation, it is highly recommended to have a professional remove or encapsulate the ceiling to resolve the issue before it impacts the sale.

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

Professionals use spraying or painting machines for application, skimming and filling for repairs, or specialized scraping techniques for safe removal.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

Popcorn ceilings can be relatively easy to keep clean with regular maintenance. Avoid exposing it to smoke if possible—popcorn ceilings tend to collect stains from smoke, including those from cigarettes or cooking. With proper care, you can clean your popcorn ceiling anywhere from every six months to a year—or as needed.
