"A couple of weeks ago, we noticed a faint smell of gas from our fireplace. We checked Google for contractors, as one does, and found Lil Joeâ s. Joe was available to come out that day to address the smell and went ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure the leak was fixed. He added a shutoff valve to the fireplace gas line in the basement, and replaced the inner workings of the fireplace itself. We then proceeded to order gas logs from Joe and he installed those just last week. His prices are fair, he is extremely clean, and his work is fantastic. I would suggest Lil Joeâ s to anyone that is in need of a gas fireplace install or maintenance!"

One way is by observing signs like condensation on windows or feeling excessively sticky or clammy indoors, indicating higher humidity. Another DIY approach involves the “hair method”—aka placing a few strands of human hair in a closed container with salt for several hours. If the hair becomes limp, it's likely due to high humidity. These methods offer rough estimations, but lack the precision of a hygrometer for accurate readings.

You can test your ductwork by hiring a technician to attach a vacuum to the ductwork near the HVAC unit and put the vent system under pressure. Your pro can use a duct leak tester to measure the amount of pressure that's escaping. 

You can also do a DIY test using an incense stick or smoke pencil. With the HVAC system running, pass the stick or pencil across the ductwork. Pay attention to the movement of the smoke. When you notice it changing, it could be a sign there’s a leak or bad connection in the duct.

In most cases, you can negotiate after a home inspection and use the issues as leverage to bring down the purchase price of a home. The only exception would be if you waived the home inspection to make your offer more appealing to the seller. In that case, you can still have a home inspection done to identify issues, but you have no recourse to make a counteroffer after you get the inspection results.
