"I placed a call into Garner Heating and Cooling about my air conditioner leaking and they came out within 5 minutes of me calling them. I was so shocked and thankful! He thoroughly explained everything that was going on with my unit and explained all my options and how they could help. The gentleman that came out was extremely nice and understanding. He was not pushy in any way, he just walked me through every option available to me. It was fixed very quickly and their amazing customer service has earned them a customer for life! I have told everyone about them! Thank you!"

"Richard made a service call due to we had no ac. Found out it was blower motor. Richard and Kevin back the very next day with new blower motor. Had it installed quickly. However still no ac now due to condenser didn't work. They both worked at troubling shooting to fix the problem. They did every step possible and finally found the issue. Within a few minutes it was taken care of ac working. They were very thorough, kind, caring and determined. I would highly recommend Whitcher Plumbing and Heating, and these two wonderful employees. They certainly deserve kudos and respect from their employer. I will definitely be using this company again. Thank you Richard and Kevin!!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is possible. An electrical fire can break out if the compressor has inadequate ventilation. When it overheats but doesn't have a proper thermal cutout, this can cause the motor to short-circuit and catch fire. This risk is exacerbated if flammable materials, like dust and fallen leaves, are clogging the unit. The compressor overheating won't start a fire by itself, but poor maintenance and installation can increase the risk once it hits its breaking point and short-circuits.

The $5,000 rule for HVAC systems helps homeowners decide whether to repair or replace an AC or furnace. Take the quote for the HVAC repair cost and multiply that by the age of the HVAC system. If the total is higher than $5,000, it’s more cost-effective to replace the system. If the total is lower than $5,000, consider repairing the system.

Yes, the furnace and AC use the same blower. The blower is located in the base of the furnace and pushes hot air out of the furnace and into the ducts. It also pushes cool air through the home when the air conditioning is on. Even though the furnace and air conditioning work independently of one another, the blower is an essential component for both systems.

If you know how to identify supply and return ducts, you’ll find that only the supply ducts will have dampers. Although your return ducts can have dampers, it’s not common. If you have one return duct that is pulling in too much air, adding a damper to it can help with overall system performance. However, dampers on return ducts are not a necessary addition for most homes.

You may never need an AC recharge if there are no leaks. However, if your AC unit has a leak that cannot be patched appropriately, you’ll need an AC recharge every time the freon level drops low enough that it disrupts your system—this could be once every two to three years. It all depends on the size and frequency of the leak.
