"These guys are the real deal...Our downstairs remodel dream started off as a sketch on a piece of paper - Brad Pipe Remodeling turned our dream into a reality! The end result was better than we imagined. From beginning to end, the quality of work this team puts in is unparalleled. They genuinely listen and ask clarifying questions that I didn't even think about - that attention to detail and level of thoughtfulness is what puts them above the average contracting company. It was just such a positive experience, and we truly are in love with our new space!"

"I desperately needed a basement window replaced, it was broken and the frame was falling out. J&Ms guys showed up ready to work and had a new window in a few hour installed. They also asked me how I wanted this or that done, which I appreciated greatly. We are very happy with the new windows and will likely have them back for future projects."

"I had a devastating flood and put out an SOS on a Rockford FB page at 9:30 pm. Greg contacted me within minutes and was able to come the next morning to see the disaster. He was so kind, informative, and patient with all my questions. He contacted my insurance adjuster, provided a detailed quote and got started with the work within a few days...even coming over on a Sunday to fix my floor where the remediation crew had left staples sticking out of the kitchen floor and ground and removed the staples. Greg went above and beyond to work with me so that the project was done timely and within the insurance company budget. I can't say enough about how wonderful they are. Work was top-notch! You will not be disappointed! I will happily call them for anything I need in the future. Absolutely no complaints. Thanks, Greg!!!!"

"Dillon was quick to contact me, and to provide a quote. The day prior for the work to be done, we increased the quantity of gravel and top soil required, and this was not a problem, whatsoever. Quote was updated, and work was done as previously scheduled. The crew was super friendly, and work was done in less than a day. I know this might not have been the biggest project for them to do, however we appreciate it was taken care of. Very hardworking crew, and this project was completed within 1 week, from the 1st contact to finish. Definitely recommend them!"

"Stephen was awesome to work with and his work is outstanding. We are SO happy with our new railings, they make the entire house look brand new. If you need work done in the Grand Haven/Holland area, don't hesitate to go with Northern Lights Construction. I've worked with a lot of contractors and Stephen is top notch. Highly recommend."

Storm Shelters FAQs, answered by experts

No, tiny houses don’t have to have wheels. However, if you plan on traveling with your tiny house and want to use it as a transportation method, it’s a good idea to buy a tiny house with wheels or put wheels on one. If you plan to stay put and live full-time in your tiny house, wheels aren’t necessary.

Technically, there isn't a difference between safe rooms and storm shelters. Both are designed to protect you from storms and extreme weather events. People often use “safe room” when discussing a shelter inside a building and storm shelter when talking about a detached unit.

Additionally, a safe room is understood to have more functions than a storm shelter. You may seek shelter in a safe room when you believe an intruder is in the home or when under another type of threat.

There's no simple answer to which is less costly: wood or metal-framed homes. In most cases, metal building components cost more than wooden ones, while entire metal buildings cost less than wooden versions. However, regardless of the exterior framing or structure, each must meet similar building codes. This means that the costs are about the same, even considering that wood will require more maintenance than metal over time.

When you compare traditional houses to prefab homes, the latter can be more sustainable for many reasons. For example, manufacturers have a more streamlined construction process for modular homes, which means there’s less waste. Additionally, some prefabricated housing manufacturers strive for energy-efficient buildings, and others produce off-the-grid capable homes that produce their own energy.

Some companies even offer net-zero buildings, which are arguably the most sustainable. So if sustainability is important to you, prefab homes can be a great fit.

Below-ground shelters are the best in terms of durability, but there is a risk of flooding and obstruction. Modern technology and rigorous construction requirements make above-ground shelters a better option for accessibility, safety, and, usually, your budget. They may not have the same aesthetic appeal, but many of their features make above-ground shelters a better option.
