"American Home Shield (AHS) warranty is replacing my broken microwave with a new one. I received the new microwave on 11/11/2020 and notified AHS it was in my possession. Part of the warranty contract includes the installation of the new microwave. AHS typically assigns contractors themselves. However, this time AHS contracted with C & R Services with a dispatch number on 11/13/2020 for C & R to assign a local contractor to do the install. After two weeks of waiting and not being contacted by C & R or a contractor, I called C & R to follow up on the status. They said it would be 1 to 2 weeks from the date they received the dispatch from AHS. I informed them it had been 2 weeks in which they replied that it would be another 2 weeks. As of today, 12/11/2020, 4 weeks from the date C & R received the dispatch, I have not been contacted by C & R or a contractor. C & R's lack of communication and customer service is absurd. AHS informed me that they do not have any authority over C & R."

Appliance Repair questions, answered by experts

No, you should not run two refrigerators on the same circuit as it is likely to overload the circuit and cause the breaker to trip or worse—cause an electrical fire. Each standard-size refrigerator should be on a dedicated 20-amp circuit. You should never plug a refrigerator into an extension cord or power strip as it can cause serious safety hazards. Refrigerators have built-in surge protection that safeguards them from the damage of power surges.

In many cases, replacing the entire AC system is a better investment than replacing a condenser or evaporator coil, as the labor and part prices can add up to a significant portion of the cost for a new system. Consult a licensed HVAC technician for an accurate diagnosis and recommendation.

Most AC units, with the proper care, will last between 10 to 15 years, on average. Window units last between 8 to 10 years. You can extend the life of an AC unit by regularly replacing its filter, cleaning its coils, and scheduling an annual tuneup.

On average, most electric ovens will last up to 13 years, and most gas ovens can last up to 15 years. To get the most out of your oven, it’s essential to properly clean and maintain it to prevent buildup. Generally, a good deep cleaning of your oven every three months will keep it clean and working correctly for years to come.

When replacing an old unit, you might want to switch from a gas water heater to an electric water heater or vice versa. To do this, you will likely need to add infrastructure to the area. For example, you likely don’t have a gas line that served your old electric water heater. You’d have to call a plumber to put in a new gas line. If you’re replacing a gas unit with an electric one, the plumber will need to safely cap the old gas line. You will then need an electrician to add wiring for the new electric unit.
