"Bart responded quickly to my request for an estimate to seal coat my driveway. He came and said he could do the work in 2 to 3 weeks. Within 2 weeks he set the date and time. He arrived on time and did his work carefully and efficiently. He answered all my questions. Very satisfied!!"

"Jordan did a great job! He kept me informed and his work product exceeded expectations. I have a 1929 craftsman home where the wall looks new after repairs and painting. He took down a plaster ceiling after a professional review of its conditions. It was the right time with the house empty to go further with the refresh than I had originally planned. He helped me find a contractor to do carpentry and ensured their work product was up to his high standards! I would highly recommend Putnam Coastal Painting."

Small jobs welcome

"I had a literal “garden” growing in my gutters. Nate explained everything he would do and the solution he uses. I also had a whole house cleaning. Including garage and deck. The results are amazing. He was prompt and efficient. Will use his services again and strongly recommend."

"Nate and his team were fantastic to work with. They took the time to understand our needs and provided fair pricing for both interior and exterior painting projects. Most importantly, the team was reliable—they showed up every day and worked consistently until the job was finished. Unlike many others, they didn’t disappear mid-project to work on something else, which I truly appreciated. I highly recommend Nate and his team for your next painting project!"

"I had some concerns and reservations about hiring Extreme Painting given the short time they had been doing this business. I was very please with the professionalism of Craig and his team throughout the project. The results were nothing but quality work on the shutters, deck framing and metal spiral stairs when the project was completed. I highly recommend Extreme Painting for any outside painting project."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The opposite is actually true: Wood stains tend to appear lighter when they’re fully dry. However, stains may darken as they weather and oxidize with age. Stains might also darken on surfaces left in direct sunlight, as UV rays can break down pigment particles and cause them to darken over time.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.

You don't need to seal your deck after painting it because most exterior paints are waterproof and weather-resistant. While stealing is not necessary, it can add an additional layer of protection.
