"We hired Dave and his crew to do a rather extensive remodel at our home.  From the start, we found Dave to be very responsive: emails and calls were returned promptly, and all questions were answered.  We found his work to be of extremely high quality: he has high standards, and this was his first and foremost concern with the full project.  Projects of this size can have variables that change throughout the timeline, and he was always honest and balanced with his opinions: he let us know where we could realize cost savings without compromising the integrity of the work.  He also had suggestions for both our sunroom and our kitchen that we feel made the end results far better than what we could have predicted... for example, he was able to offer suggestions about our kitchen window, lighting, and entryway that we would not have thought of-- and we love all of these changes.  There were several times throughout the project when we realized that a change was needed (for example- once the deck was built, we thought it should be larger), and he was able to quickly adjust.  Our full project took about 2 1/2 months.  Dave and his crew are all hard workers- they were there just about every day, and were constantly busy.  We have young children and had to live in our home during this remodel, and the workers were all respectful of that, making sure that our living spaces were blocked off with plastic to minimize dust, etc.   The end result of our project is superb- we love our new kitchen, sunroom and entryway.  As with any kitchen remodel, there were some inconveniences along the way, but working with Dave was an excellent experience, and we would certainly recommend him to anyone.  We feel that his work added value to our home, and absolutely increased our quality of living."

"Chris took my rough design, refined it and used his drawing for permitting and as a guide for subcontractors. Chris supervised excavation the foundation pour, utility connections and a variety of specialty contractors including plumbing and electrical, wallboard and plaster including the a very nice ceiling, windows and roofing. He did all the framing, rough and finish carpentry, flooring including tile, himself. There was no element of the build where he wasn’t intimately involved. Chris was considerate of my ideas, and enhanced and often expanded on the them. He was conscious of my budget and stretched my dollars without sacrificing quality. Two years later when a sliding door seal failed he replaced the door at no charge. My home is modest but “feels” bigger and more expensive than what it was. It is open concept with a lot of natural light. It takes advantage of passive solar heating and with my wood stove this 1800 square foot house makes it through the coldest winter without turning on the gas heat yet only consumed two cords of wood! It’s too bad Chris moved to the coast, contractors with integrity and skill are not easy to find. Our community’s loss, is Coastal Maine’s gain. I would be happy to recommend Chris to anyone in need of his many skills."

"Some of the designs that were offered when designing the basement were not actually available and I was not told until they were already doing the install. The breaker for the basement lights and plugs seems overloaded because it will trip when I have the treadmill plugged in. There were a couple of places where the paint did not appear to dry correctly and had to be redone and still has an uneven surface. They got it done quickly but you could definitely tell it was rushed."

"He designed an opening in our basement wall for an egress window to be installed by others. He was careful to make sure his design would not be detrimental to the structural integrity of our building. He completed his drawings on time. We are pleased with is design."

Remodel Design questions, answered by experts

Professionals such as architects, general contractors, electricians, HVAC specialists, and interior designers are crucial to effectively planning and executing significant renovations.

Mid-century modern architecture was a popular home style throughout the U.S. from the 1950s to 1970s. Most homes feature a wide and symmetrical floor plan with low-sloped roofs and floor-to-ceiling windows. Its minimalism and balanced appearance are back on the home style scene, particularly when maximizing sunlight, airflow, and a blend with the home's natural surroundings.

Italianate architecture is a reinterpretation of Renaissance styles, combining elements of Italian farmhouses and villas with Victorian materials and construction. This home style emerged in the Victorian era, gaining popularity in the U.S. in the mid-to late-1800s. The style came about in response to what many then viewed as the too-rigid and stuffy Classical style designs.
