It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but we don’t recommend it. Watering big trees to this extent can take quite a bit of time using a hose. For this reason, you may consider installing a soaker hose or sprinkler system to make the job easier.  

Pruning is an effective way to prevent a diseased branch from infecting the rest of the tree. If the infection isn’t caught early enough and the pathogen has spread to the trunk or the majority of the branches though, it is too late to prune off the affected areas and you’ll likely need to remove the tree.

In most cases, hiring a tree surgeon or arborist is very often worth the investment. Arborists have education and certifications that standard tree removal companies usually don’t, leading to overall better and more professional service. Tree removal is safer with an arborist, especially if the tree you’re taking down is diseased or infested. Stump grinding is done to a safe depth that won’t cause your lawn to collapse over time, and other services are all backed by greater experience and expertise. If you want truly expert-level service, opt for an arborist.

If you’re buying a small tree with lots of room to grow, expect to pay around $100 to $200 for a potted version. But if you’re buying a larger tree—say one over 10 feet—prices rise, starting in the $500 to $600 range and increasing quickly from there. Keep in mind that paying for professional palm tree planting or transplanting services will increase the cost.
