"Zuhlke Tree Service did a great job clearing out some overgrowth next to our neighbors fence as well as take down a damaged spruce tree. They removed all the tree pieces and debris leaving our yard all picked up. The Zuhlke family is very friendly and reviews the work to be done with you before starting the job. They offer very reasonable rates. I highly recommend Zuhlke Tree Service if you need any tree/ shrub removal done on your property."

"Jarrod took down a very large 150 plus yr old pine tree that towered above the roof of our house! He is a pro for sure. He dropped it right where it needed to go and made it look way too easy! I recommend him highly for any tree service. His price is more than fair for his experience and skill."

Customers say: Quality work

"I relocated here from Florida. I call many companies for lawn care and only a few for back to me. Jonathan who I spoke with this morning not only called me back quickly, but within an hour of his call he came out and gave an estimate, signed me up for bi-weekly lawn care and sent his crew out TODAY (same day) to do the work. They did a very nice job and were fast and efficient. I am happy with the lawn and the quality, but the customer service sets them apart. I highly recommend Appalachian Lawn Care and Snow Removal. They are on their A game!"

"In addition to the professional work done to remove 2 large trees endangering our house, great care was taken to maximize personal safety and to protect other trees, power lines, and surrounding vegetation. But perhaps the most remarkable quality of 3 C's work was the personal warmth and commitment to relationships and customer satisfaction that characterize their professional ethic. We greatly appreciated their regular communication before, during, and after their service, and their attention to detail, including follow-up clean-up. We strongly recommend this family-operated enterprise."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

It’s possible, although a lot depends on the cause of damage and what steps you take. If the remaining parts of the maple tree are alive and not under attack by disease or pests, they can often be saved even if large portions of the maple tree have died. Frequent watering, careful pruning, mulch, and any recommended fungicides or insecticides can all help with survival.

The safest way to cut down a tree is to make sure you’re completely prepared and have done all the necessary safety checks, including double-checking your equipment is in good working order, you have plenty of clearance to fell the tree, you’re wearing all the safety gear, and you have a partner to help you (who should also be wearing safety gear).

All of the tree root removal methods mentioned above are effective on any kind of root, whether it’s still growing or simply needs a gentle nudge to finish decomposing. The only difference is that larger roots tend to be harder to remove and may require multiple chemical treatments as well as manual labor to eradicate.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.
