The work crews did an impressive job of demolishing and rebuilding the concrete steps and slab, fixing the mortar in the cinder block walls, building a temporary structure to hold the roof up during construction, recoating the exterior porch walls, and installing new soffit, columns and railings. The transformation is amazing. Additionally, Zachary, Nick, and all of the workmen were clean cut, polite, honest, and hard working, with good manners. I found them easy to work with. They also repaired our brick front steps and porch, and installed new path lights to replace old, failing lighting. Kyle is easy to communicate with, and offered a lot of good ideas. "I do not normally write reviews, but I feel like I should let other people know about this company. I could write an entire essay on my experience with them but I will try and keep it short. I hired HL to redo my entire front lawn with new walkways, retaining walls, plants, mulch, and trees. I spent over $17,000 and thought I was getting a great deal. Dave and his group were very nice at first but once work had begun things quickly changed. They would say nice stuff to my face but I would catch them saying bad things about me behind my back. They had horrible communication with me, they rushed to get to the next job, and I had several problems with their work. The amount of stress they caused me was truly unfair to me. I eventually got most of the problems fixed. One of those problems was they did not install weed fabric under all my beds as discussed. They came back and fixed it but did a horrible job. They also put barely enough mulch back to cover the fabric and dirt so now I have a literal jungle in most areas. I was not happy before I paid but no amount of money is worth the issues they caused me. They even put grass seed in the mulched areas that are now grass. I would have tried to get them to come back out for the fourth time but it is not worth the stress. I expect a little maintenance but my yard looks nothing that was agreed to. I will have to fix it myself in the spring but I had to write this review because everyday I look at my yard and I am not pleased. Reading the other reviews makes mine stick out but I would not recommend them. Spend your money on a better company. UPDATE: Owner reached out to remedy the issue. They came out and pulled out all old mulch, weed, and weed fabric and replaced them. Looks much better. They seem to have taken more care this time and I hope it works. Fabric seems to have been put down better with more mulch too. I hope the mulch is deep enough with a combination of fabric to stop most weeds in the spring."

"Distinctive Landscaping did a major project behind our house that completely changed the looks of the back yard. We had lived in the house for 32 years and this was a project I had thought about many times, but I had to find the right landscape designer to implement it. Kurt was that person. He listened to my vision and came up with a design which was modified several times until it was ready to go. The area behind the house had erosion problems and he planned a retaining wall that solved this and flowed into a walkway that curved behind the porch and deck. Kurt dropped off samples of stone pavers in different colors and we are very happy with the choice we made. The work began in December, 2017, then had to be delayed because the ground was frozen to a greater depth than in most winters. When the elements allowed work resumed. The crew was exceptional, not hurrying, but doing precision work. We were so pleased that we decided to redo our 22 year old flagstone patio using the same stone pavers. Shrubs were added along part of the walkway. Four shrubs were also planted in the front yard. The work spanned almost three months (mostly due to weather related interruptions) and by Spring, the back yard had a whole new look with a walkway and patio that we could use and enjoy."
