"I wanted to move my piano into climate-controlled storage while I was having new flooring installed in my home, so I found Johnson’s Piano Moving based on their excellent online reviews. Ted from Johnson’s worked with me to have my piano moved into their climate-controlled storage for a week during the installation. My house has a side entrance which made the move pretty challenging, but the excellent crews who moved the piano out and back in were very creative in accommodating the challenge with the front door and they took great care not to damage my railings on the stoop. I highly recommend Johnson’s Piano Moving!"

"We can't review Majestic Moving and Storage highly enough.  They were absolutely delightful to work with. To start, they do in home estimates.  In the past, we've always used moving companies who make us estimate how big/heavy our furniture is and we're always wrong so the estimate is always wrong.  Our estimate was reasonable and completely accurate.  They provided a low end and a high end on the estimate to give us a guide of what it would cost if everything ran smoothly and what it would cost if we had a crazy snowy day.
On the day of the move, the team was a little delayed by traffic but they called to let us know. Once they arrived they unloaded our condo quickly - which is challenging because it's on the third floor of a garden style building.  There are no elevators and the staircases aren't very wide. They asked lots of questions about where items were going in the new house and loaded the truck in the order they'd unload it.  It took a little time but when they arrived at the new house, they were able to unload so quickly.  Even with their traffic delay, they finished well within the time estimate and actually below the low end price on the estimate.
We didn't have a single damaged item in the move.  Honestly, we don't have a single complaint about the service we received.

"Angie's List provided 3 movers. Blue Skies had the best price of the 3. After finally getting a move date from my son, I contacted Blue Skies. Even with it being a week out, it was no problem for them. They provided a 2-hour window that I was happy with. The crew called to advise when they were 25 minutes away. They arrived well within the 2 hour time-frame they gave me. They were very professional and were done in no time moving what I had. One was a very heavy leather sofa/bed. There were no issues, at all, on delivering the furniture. We were very pleased with their work and would use them again."

"We hired Two Marines Moving and could not have been more pleased with them! They arrived on time, were extremely courteous and professional, and they lived up to the high standards they advertised. Moreover, the price was very fair for the amount of time they were there. I really appreciated that they called a few days before the move to confirm the details and see if we needed any additional labor or packing supplies. I was most impressed in that they were more than capable of moving our large, upright piano for a reasonable price. Other moving companies refused to move it, but TMM moved it with such careful precision that we didn't even need to spend money hire a piano tuner after the move (and if you own a piano, you know how crucial this is!). TMM also moved a massive queen-sized wooden futon with a matching futon-style chair - they carefully took both pieces apart but what was most impressive is that they it all back together again absolutely perfectly. In addition to moving these extremely large pieces, they also carefully moved a Nordic elliptical and multiple expensive, heavy pieces with zero damage. What really stood out to me, though, was that after they were off the clock, they took the time to speak to my elderly Marine father about life in the military. I think the majority of the people they hire is military, and we were fortunate enough that our entire crew was military. It was quite evident that the crew understood the importance of customer service, as they treated my dad and my property with the upmost respect. I've had other moves in Florida where crews have left packing supplies and food behind, but the TMM crew was so clean and tidy! I've recommended them to multiple friends, and no one I know has had any issues. I'm not looking forward to moving again, but when I do, I look forward to hiring them again!"

"G&G Moving was simply outstanding!  They provided the kind of customer service that we expect, but don’t often receive. Every aspect of this process was handled in a timely manner, from the quote (the lowest price compared to three other companies), box delivery, and finally with Vernon and his team’s arrival on move day.  Our move required two trips, and the team handled it with efficiency, while maintaining the integrity of our furniture.  If we ever require moving services in the future, G&G will absolutely be our moving company of choice."

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

There are different types of moving companies, and you’ll want to look for one that has experience moving houses. Ask them how many houses they’ve moved, how long they’ve been in business, whether they coordinate all of the labor, permits, and subcontractors needed, and what their liability is for any damages incurred.

Yes, moving a piano often causes it to become out of tune, even if you're not moving the piano very far. One reason is that any temperature and humidity changes can affect a piano's tuning. Additionally, the bumps and jolts from a moving truck usually push a piano out of tune.

However, don't jump right to tuning it once the piano gets to your new home. Instead, it's best to wait at least two weeks for the instrument to acclimate to its new environment. After a couple weeks, you'll get an idea of what the piano will really sound like in its new home, at which point you can call a piano technician to get it properly tuned.

Most upright pianos weigh between 500 and 1000 pounds. Other vertical pianos, which are sometimes confused with upright pianos, may be between 200 and 500 pounds. Spinet pianos weigh between 200 and 400 pounds, console pianos are 350 to 450 pounds, and studio pianos are 400 to 500 pounds.

To find a reputable furniture shipper, start by asking your social circle for recommendations. You can also conduct online searches for long-distance or international furniture moving companies. When evaluating potential shippers, read online reviews and testimonials, understand the services they provide, and get quotes to ensure they fit within your budget.

No, homeowners insurance does not typically cover moving expenses. Homeowners insurance provides coverage and pay-outs if you experience damage to the home you currently live in. You’ll need to save separately for moving expenses like hiring movers, renting a tow truck, or shipping your belongings.
