"Once again, AMS Home Remodeling, Frank, was able to clean up my mess.  After ordering a closet organizer unit online. I made the mistake of hiring another company to install the units - 3 total (2 reach in and 1 master).  This original company did not know what they were doing and caused me nothing but more problems (i.e. holes in walls, damaged pieces from closet unit that needed to be replaced, etc).  Frank was able to make time in his all ready busy schedule to come out to take a look at the mess.  He was able to get me into the schedule and complete the install and all repairs from previous contractors by the end of the week.  Frank and his crew (Bruno plus 1) did more than an outstanding job.  Final product is amazing.  I have used AMS Home Remodeling for a complete makeover in my home and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for an honest dependable contractor.  I absolutely LOVE these guys.
Frank - thank you!!!!

"Everything went great! Lindsay called promptly after I purchased a deal on here. Once the work was scheduled Joel came out to do the work. He was on time and showed me tons of issues with what needed to be repaired. He gave me detailed information on why it cracked and let me know that it would happen again if not done correctly. He gave me a quote for a new stone walkway and porch that was more than fair having known several people to have the same work done with other companies. I plan on taking them up on the work in the future for sure just coudln't swing it after the holidays. Both Lindsay and Joel provided everyhing I hoped for given the companies great reputation.

"I saw a couple negative reviews of Machiolis Construction and was compelled to offer a very different experience. Our experience with Machiolis has been outstanding in all ways. Pablo previously helped  resolve the mess left by a previous (horrid) contractor who completely botched our kitchen remodel. Every detail was perfect in that earlier job, so we elected to call Pablo again when our upstairs bathroom project announced its urgency by leaking profusely into the downstairs office, collapsing some of the plaster ceiling.
As with the previous job, Pablo and crew got to know what we were looking for, established a fitting timetable and contract, and scheduled the work. Two things we truly appreciated about Machiolis Construction was that they worked our job EVERY day, not disappearing for long stretches as they hustled between five other job sites. Secondly, they cleaned up meticulously, and kept our house exceptionally clean. They treat your house as a HOME, not a 'job site', which makes it quite easy to live in, despite the unavoidable disruption that remodelling brings.
As before, the crew was professional, sober, smart, and skilled in their trades. Pablo's team adapted to some devilish project surprises (for example, a previous owner had cut load-bearing joists to jigger-in the plumbing, and we needed to re-joist the entire bathroom floor). Change orders were no hassle, and executed professionally and quickly. The finished product is flawless, and we are delighted.
As I mentioned in my opening comments, I believe some scheduling hiccups may have plagued Machiolis recently, and earned a couple of Angie's List 'dings'. That's regrettable for a firm as excellent as the one Pablo runs. All businesses go through growing pains, and I hope Machiolis Construction all the best for continued success. When we are ready for our basement finishing project, he'll be who we count on.

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

In addition to a doorbell camera, you can upgrade your home’s security with several different features. Backyard security, for instance, may include a mix of security cameras, lighting, and fencing. Additional security cameras around your property, as well as a total smart security system with an alarm connected to your smartphone, are also advisable. This could well be worth the cost for the peace of mind alone, but home security systems also lower home insurance costs.

Yes, professionals can install gates with locking mechanisms and access control systems for added security.

To make your gate safe, purchase a gate made from strong material such as wrought iron, stainless steel, or other metals. Ensure that the gate has strong joints and bars that are welded on rather than inserted loosely. If you’re concerned about people climbing over your gate, you can deter them by installing fence spikes along the top as an extra precaution.

A security door costs an average of $1,400, but costs can range from $600 for a simple screen or steel door to more than $4,600 for a wrought-iron security door. You can also buy specialized locks separately for $200 to $600. If you decide to hire a pro to install your new security door, you’ll spend around $275 to $425 on labor costs.
