"Mike was awesome. He is a true professional who carries out his work meticulously. Often a paint job can be messy but not with Mike who has a lot of patience for details etc. I will recommend Mike anytime and would hire him all the time for my painting projects."

"Zavala was hired primarily for floor tile replacement; but job evolved into a bathroom refresh/renovation. Floor tiling was geometric and not an easy lay. From day one to completion of the project, Mr. Zavala demonstrated a “spirit of excellence” in performing every facet of the project with attention to details; integrity, which is a rare commodity in the contractor industry and a genuine desire to insure project met both mine and his high expectations. Appreciated meticulous daily clean up until project completion. Zavala Construction (Wulian) now rests at the top of the list for my TWO preferred “go to” contractors."

Our work stands out from others who do the same for a few reasons. We have an eye for detail no matter what the job. And we are very through in all our jobs. We complete each job as though we were doing it for our own family. We work closely with our clients to get exactly what they want. We also take the extra time to find the best alternatives to getting the estimate down to fit your budget and get what you are wanting done. If there's something that needs to be done so that it saves you money in the long run and if you're wanting something done that's not necessary and could save you money we will let you know. Honesty is one of our to priority to earn and keep our clients trust. We treat every customer with loyalty and respect so that you will never need another contractor/handyman and cut the worry if you are getting what you want and an affordable rate without the extra unnecessary costs that many are charging now days. We also have no overhead to pay and we only bring in the amount of employees needed to keep the cost of labor at a minimum.

"I bought a home built before 1978 and found that there was some asbestos floor tile in the basement. I reached out to D&H Demolition and they immediately came out to take a look at the project and provided a free estimate. They were very helpful and answered all my questions which made me feel a lot safer about the situation. I hired them and they took care of the work the very next day! Overall I was very pleased with their price and quality of work. Highly recommend!"

"When I contacted JPZ Contracting about my shower stall project, Joe Zajaczkowski immediately responded and came to the house immediately to assess my problem and furnish me with an estimate to do the project. He understood my concerns and came up with a plan to solve my problems. He placed my project as his first priority when he knew I had a slow drip from the water pipes which was causing me some minor flooding. He found the leaking pipe very quickly and reworked the plumbing. He then rebuilt my shower stall by replacing a vinyl shower base with a ceramic tile base. He reworked the existing shower faucets. He bought new tile which matched the existing tile and he used it to artistically rebuild my shower stall, the shower seat and the new ceramic tiled shower floor. His workmanship was outstanding on every leg of the project. He left the work area clean each day by outstanding daily clean-ups. I was very satisfied and pleased with his high quality work and I gained faith in Joe Zataczkowski that he would finish the project to my complete satisfaction."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.

The choice of whether to tile or use an acrylic tub surround is up to you and can be based on a number of factors, including aesthetics, cost, waterproofing, ease of cleaning, and maintenance.

Tile is a beautiful, classic bathtub surround choice; while tile installation cost is higher, it’s customizable and offers visual appeal. Tile is also harder to clean and presents waterproofing problems because of grout lines. Acrylic surrounds can be more affordable, don’t require much maintenance, and are easier to clean. However, they aren’t usually as visually appealing and may need to be replaced if they become damaged.

You can let the tile sit without grout. Don’t panic if there’s a delay between installing the tiles and grouting. A substantial stoppage isn't a problem, provided you keep the tile surface clear of dust and debris. Also, avoid walking over less stable ungrouted floor tiles as they are more prone to premature cracking and shifting.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward.
