"We've had generally positive experiences with McCrea. In July we had an issue with our secondary A/C unit - a minisplit that was leaking into the room. $109 for the technician to come out. When they came, the repair was small - clearing a drainage line. Called back within 30 days because the leak did not resolve, McCrea said they would send someone back out, no charge. We had some challenges and rescheduling, leading to a misunderstanding that we would be charged for a technician having to return. On that basis, I left some negative reviews online - to which McCrea responded, reaching out via phone to set an appointment for a technician to come out. Two technicians came today and spent a good deal of time fixing our initial issue. They went above an beyond in fixing the unit, remounting, and appropriately sealing the unit to the wall. On the basis of this, I'm changing my review of working with McCrea to a 5-star experience. Some miscommunication happened on both ends - we're all human - but their willingness to make things right really shows a business that values integrity. Would use again."

"Two weeks ago we hired Elite Home Services to clean our dryer vent. The technician, Dan, discovered a pretty major problem: Our dryer vent had a gap before it exited the house, so dryer lint was blowing into the area above the first-floor ceiling. The company sent the lead technician, Ikey T., to rejoin our dryer venting. Ikey discovered that our vent line actually had two gaps (!!) and parts of our bedroom ceiling would need to be opened. Before we could get too discouraged, he showed us pictures he had taken of our problem and pictures of other similar lines that he had repaired. It was easy to trust him, and we're very glad we did. Ikey is professional, knowledgeable, and extremely skilled. He kept the work area neat and dust to a minimum, and by the time he was finished fixing the drywall and painting the areas that had been opened, we couldn't tell that anything had been done. The ceiling was perfect, the vent line was repaired, and we no longer had a fire hazard. Thanks, Ikey!"

"

we had a leak problem and the tech came and looked over our equipment, fixed the problem and left. It cost us nothing and we have had their home heating service contracts for over 20 years.  They have NEVER ONCE not shown up or not helped and in the two furnace emergencies we had--they were here with in 1hr.

We are very happy.

"Best Air Quality and Restoration did a spectacular job! I can't say enough about the employees. They did an outstanding job! They were punctual, polite and followed social distancing protocols. They assessed the home and cleaned the air ducts quickly and efficiently. I am very pleased with their service and highly recommended this company. I purchased a new home and had them come clean the ducts to improve the homes environment. They showed me before and after pictures and I noticed a difference right away"

"We had a tuneup today on our HVAC system. Gentleman was professional. However.....technician states they are no longer allowed to utilize homeowner's driveway. I would like to know who is now coming to repair the damage to my front yard! It's wet and of course he got stuck. WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT TO HAVE A TEAM-MEMBER OF ARS OUT TO REPAIR OUR LAWN?"

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.

The best way to clean central vacuum pipes is to use a maintenance sheet to dislodge clogs and wipe the inside of the pipes clean. Alternatively, a professional can clean your central vacuum pipes for you.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.

Maintaining your central vacuum cleaner is crucial to extending its lifespan. Ensuring the filter is cleaned or changed often is vital to ensuring clogs don’t impact your motor. In addition, inspecting motor brushes regularly and lubricating the engine when needed helps keep it in tip-top shape. Finally, cleaning the central vacuum hose of dirt and debris helps keep clogs at bay, especially if you’ve vacuumed something wet or sticky.

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.
