"Dmata rebuilt a circa 1929 brick retaining wall at our house that was cracked and in danger to failing in several places. They were able to salvage much of the original brick and mix it in with new brick to create a wall that looks like a perfect match for the original wall. They were also able to fix a number of drainage issues we were having in the front yard at the same time. We have gotten multiple compliments from neighbors on the new wall and it has dramatically improved the drainage in the yard. Dmata also repointed an existing slate patio and re-aligned an existing brick walkway on our property both of which turned out great! They are our first call for any masonry and hardscaping project and we would not hesitate to use them again!"

"I hired JES to install a trench and sump system into the basement of a new house I purchased. After the job was completed, I noticed the cellar stairwell was pooling water. They returned and said that they didn't think that the drain was run direct to the sump as it should have been but they needed to open the concrete to verify. I also asked why there was no water in the sumps. They ran tests with water for 2 hours and didn't see water and tried to explain to me that it was expected since the water was running out around the drainage under the foundation. They even had a supervisor try to explain to me over the phone when I questioned it. It took them several weeks to return to fix the cellar drain and sure enough, the pipe was just run to under the foundation and not directed into the trench/sump. A repair team came out and busted up the concrete to correct it. In doing so, they saw that their trench was also not connected to the sumps at all, which is why I never saw water in the sumps and not the mysterious theory they tried to convince me of weeks prior. This is terrible that there is no inspection of work prior to covering it totally with concrete. Or further, there was no physical test of running water in the system to verify the sump works. The repair team that came out were wonderful and did everything correct. After this, I called 3 times and asked for a manager to call me to discuss this and never received a response. The salesman stopped answering my calls. As a note, after spending $30K on this upgrade to my house, it was in worse risk than prior to JES so if you choose them, be careful."

Resurfaced concrete can last anywhere from eight to 15 years on average. Just how long your resurface concrete driveway lasts depends on how often you seal the concrete, the amount of traffic, how well the concrete resurfacer was applied, and even the soil quality. Poor soil that led to premature cracks in your existing concrete can quickly lead to even more cracks and problems if you don’t fix the root cause of the cracked concrete.

Magnesium chloride is often said to be the safest salt-based option for pet owners. Potassium chloride and calcium chloride are other common choices. For homeowners with dogs, urea is generally safe for their paws and won’t be harmful if ingested. You might also consider opting for an ice melt brand designed with pet safety in mind.

For homeowners, it’s better to dry grind concrete. Dry grinding is the method described above and can be done by experienced DIYers for smaller projects. Wet grinding requires a big volume of water, a way to collect the slurry created by the water and dust, and an environmentally-safe place to dispose of the slurry. A 4-inch-thick concrete slab can support around 4,000 pounds per square foot if a contractor reinforces the slab with rebar, while that same slab without reinforcements will support closer to 1,000 pounds. For the purposes of a patio, 4 inches in thickness without reinforcement should suffice unless you’re installing heavy kitchen equipment or a hot tub on it. In those cases, reinforcing your slab and sticking with 4 inches of thickness should provide plenty of strength.
