"If I could give it a 0 across, I would. Home advisor hooked me up with this company and they were so professional and great that I used them again to open my pool. They initially closed it. I contacted them WEEKS in advance, to schedule my pool opening, since I know memorial day is such a busy time. I also had a family reunion scheduled for memorial day, which took weeks to coordinate with family members coming from different places. I'd been promising my children for weeks they'd be able to finally use our pool when we got home, since we have been quarantined in new york and were finally coming home. Bryan Trujillo responded and we set an appointment for the 16th of May at 3 pm. Come the day of the appointment, I notice its 5 o clock and I haven't received a call. I reached out to him, and got no answer. I've been calling and emailing non stop for days since then, and no answer as to why he flaked on me. I even told him I needed it no later than that day, because I wouldn't be in town until the 22nd. Now I'm stuck trying to find someone to open my pool last minute, and at this rate, everyone is booked and my pool will not be open in time for my family reunion. He's ruined my holiday, family plans, and I'm beyond upset. This is extremely unprofessional."

Less expensive hot tubs are typically lighter because they are made of molded plastic or fiberglass.

It’s easy to keep your hot tub clean and safe for all to enjoy by following a few simple tips:

  • Make sure anyone who uses the hot tub rinses themselves and their swimsuits off, perhaps in an outdoor shower near the hot tub. 

  • Don’t add anything to your hot tub’s water. Bath oils and bubble bath liquids might seem like a fun addition to your hot tub experience, but these substances will turn the water in your tub foamy and its surfaces hard to clean. 

  • Restrict eating in the tub to light snacks that you can easily clean out if there’s any spillage. Crumbs from crackers and chips can be difficult to pick up. 

  • Make it a no-pet zone. Pet fur and dander can pose a cleaning issue, but it’s also not a great idea for your pet’s health and safety. 

Where you drain a hot tub largely depends on local regulations, but you must not drain chemically treated water where it can damage the environment. Direct the water toward a sanitary sewer drain that will take it to a treatment facility. If your lawn has a dedicated drainage area that’s free from plants and foundations, you can likely drain it there. Avoid storm drains, as the hot tub water will enter waterways and could hurt aquatic life. Likewise, do not pour it out directly on any public land or where it can get into your neighbors’ property. 

Most hot tubs use between 1,500 watts and 6,000 watts of electricity, depending on the voltage of your heater. 120-volt heaters tip toward the low end, and 240-volt heaters tip toward the high end. Expect your pump to add another 1,500 watts. Newer, energy-efficient models use less electricity, while older models use more.

Some individuals choose to run their hot tub without treatment at all and simply clean it more often (although you risk bacteria, fungi, and algae growth if you take this route); others use natural products like vinegar or Borax. Ozone, ultraviolet light, and electrolysis systems are also eco-friendly ways to have a clean hot tub without chemicals. Saltwater hot tubs are popular with people who are sensitive to chlorine, bromine, and other traditional hot tub chemicals.
