"not just professional efficient! Unbelievably fair priced literally less than half of what a major competitor on this site quoted using my own parts and my own wire! Just because there are any energy list doesn’t mean some people won’t try and rip you off and fools will pay it. Mr. NAGY is a professional and very ethical. I’d recommend hiring him again and again!"

"I was referred to Kolb Electric by my home warranty service.  There were two issues, both in the bathroom:  1.  The light fixture did not work.  I had changed the bulb but still no light.  Could not determine the issue on my own so I contacted an electrician.  2.  One of the two plugs on the outlet did not work.  The latter issue was relatively easy to resolve.  The repair person happened to have a GFI receptacle and was able to replace.  He noted that the cost was normally $30 + tax for the part but he did not charge me.  The reset had broken on the other one.   With the former issue, the technician was taking a very long time (more than 30 mins) to diagnose the problem.  His conclusion was that i needed a new fixture entirely.  The one I had was a T12 ballast fixture and he recommended a T8 ballast fixture.  I asked him to explain the rationale as well as the difference between the two.  He didn't provide a very thorough or  clear explanation, except to repeatedly say that I needed a new fixture.  In reality, what he was recommending was a new striplight--not a new fixture.  [Note:  I purchased a new T8 light strip from Amazon for a whopping $16.45.]  When I asked if he was able to make this repair, he noted that he had to contact my home warranty service to get approval.  I could not recall immediately if my home warranty covered parts, etc.  I looked through my files for a copy of the policy while he spoke with the home warranty service via phone.  He shared with me that he'd now been at my home for more than an hour, and there would be charges for subsequent time.  [Note:  He was on the phone with the home warranty company from 8:49 am - 9:20 am.]  I asked him how he'd calculated that, since it had been less than an hour, and he said that he included the time it took him to find parking.  Even now, nearly two years later as I write this, I still can't believe he actually said that.  If every repair or service person charged their customers in DC for time they search for parking, no one would ever be able to afford a repair service.  This is a major metropolitan city and you're arriving during the AM rush hour (arrived at 7:40 am).  As he spoke (allegedly) to the warranty company, presumably his dispatcher/supervisor and me, he kept changing the cost to stay--from $246 to $305 to $185 (for the fixture alone) to $270.  At this point, I decided to wrap up our interaction, and told him I'd be in touch if I needed him (which I never would).  I gave him a check for $75--the cost per the warranty company for the visit.  In the end, I never called him or Kolb back.  It took 2 more electricians to diagnose the problem (see my POSITIVE review of A Action Home Services).  In the end, it wasn't the fixture at all.  A neutral connection had to be repaired.  Once that was fixed, and a new bulb installed, ta-da:  light!  I'm being generous with my rating mostly because he did fix the plug.

"The service was stellar from the start. I contacted C. T. Smith Electrical and everything from explaining what I needed to the actual work being done was managed professionally. I provided pictures as well as the electricians came out to assess. The price was very fair for the jobs requested and even when there were some issues that required additional work, the additional cost was fair. They have no way of knowing what is behind the scenes until the start the work and I completely appreciated their assessment and the options available to complete the job. I am so happy with outcome. I will definitely recommend! Thanks C. T. Smith Electrical."

"I needed an electrical outlet under my bath vanity in order for the plumber to install a point of use tankless water heater. Mark was quick to respond with a quote that was much less expensive than another electrician and didn't need the extra "fluff" that I would have been charged. Came on time and the work was done with precision (the plumber even admired the work!) :-)"

"I had a wonderful experience with Electrical Connections. My project ended up being much larger than I anticipated it would be and they were excellent at explaining everything and helping me understand what needed to be done. Customer service was top notch and clearly a priority for everyone I talked to from the scheduler to the owner of the company. Brian was excellent and stayed until the job was done even though it made an extra long day for him. Highly recommended!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Mount Airy, burning odors, frequent breaker trips, or outlets that feel warm are strong signs you need electrical work. Flickering lights, especially during storms, often point to wiring issues common in older Mount Airy homes. If only one room is affected or appliances malfunction, the issue might be isolated. For widespread outages, check with neighbors to determine if it’s a local utility problem before calling an electrician.

Helpful?

In Mount Airy, address electrical issues like burning smells, sparks, or hot outlets immediately to ensure safety. Schedule major upgrades, such as panel replacements or surge protection, during spring or fall for optimal weather. Cosmetic changes, like new fixtures or extra outlets, can typically wait. If your electrical system is outdated or you’re adding high-demand appliances, plan upgrades soon to avoid future complications.

Helpful?

Mount Airy homes with finished basements, split-level designs, or solid wood framing can make electrical upgrades more complex. Limited attic or crawlspace access and older wiring types, like knob-and-tube, may require special handling. Homes built before 1980 in Mount Airy often need extra precautions for materials like lead paint. Have a local electrician assess your home’s layout to identify potential challenges before starting major electrical work.

Helpful?

Before starting electrical projects in Mount Airy, outline your project’s scope and consult a licensed electrician familiar with local homes. Secure all necessary permits, especially for panel upgrades or new wiring. Submit detailed plans for approval, and schedule inspections in advance. If you live in a Mount Airy neighborhood with an HOA, check for additional requirements. Coordinate with your utility provider for any service changes, and plan around storm seasons to minimize weather delays.

Helpful?

Upgrading electrical systems in Mount Airy can enhance your home’s value and attract buyers, especially in competitive neighborhoods. Modern panels, whole-house surge protection, and GFCI outlets are highly desirable, given the area’s frequent storms. Smart-home readiness and energy-efficient upgrades are increasingly expected by Mount Airy homeowners. Updated electrical systems often help homes sell faster and avoid price reductions during inspection negotiations.
