"We highly recommend RTS for anyone with mold concerns. We found what we were concerned was mold in our new house. Our realtor immediately recommended that we reach out to Paul at RTS because so many clients raved about him and his company in the past. Despite the fact that he was out of town, he offered to immediately review photos in order to provide an initial assessment. Paul later came to my home and was extremely knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and caring. He did a terrific job assessing a potential leak in our bathroom and then cleaned and treated the area. Paul then very speedily wrote a clear and detailed report with next steps and helpful recommendations on preventing mold from growing in the damp area. Although the use of asbestos has declined since the 1980s, it remains in several different types of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire retardant. Typically, asbestos can be found in materials such as ceiling and floor tiles, heat-resistant fabrics and coatings, and roof shingles. You may also find asbestos in textured paint and patching compounds.

If you think you’ve touched asbestos, do not put on a mask. This is important because you may take the asbestos fibers on your hands on trap them in the mask. Make your way to a sink and wash your hands thoroughly. Remove any clothes and seal them in a bag, then take a shower. Call your doctor and let them know you’ve been exposed to asbestos, and make sure you see them as soon as possible. The reason you keep the clothes is in case anyone wants to confirm the presence of asbestos.

Duration varies, commonly from a few days to a week, based on building assessment.

You are not really supposed to seal asbestos with paint, but in theory it could work—the caveat being that this is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The only real way to seal asbestos is with the professional application of an encapsulating material like epoxy. Due to the negative effect asbestos can have on your home, however, it is usually the best course of action to accept a costly fix and remove the material entirely.

if you install new siding on top of old asbestos siding, you may keep the fibers trapped, but it would not necessarily be considered encapsulation. To do so properly requires a professional, who uses a certain type of sealant that needs to be spread over the asbestos in a number of layers in order to trap all the fibers. Although you may be able to buy this sealant yourself, it is highly advised that, once you find asbestos, you call a pro immediately.
