"We highly recommend RTS for anyone with mold concerns. We found what we were concerned was mold in our new house. Our realtor immediately recommended that we reach out to Paul at RTS because so many clients raved about him and his company in the past. Despite the fact that he was out of town, he offered to immediately review photos in order to provide an initial assessment. Paul later came to my home and was extremely knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and caring. He did a terrific job assessing a potential leak in our bathroom and then cleaned and treated the area. Paul then very speedily wrote a clear and detailed report with next steps and helpful recommendations on preventing mold from growing in the damp area. Federal and state grants for asbestos testing and removal do exist and can help homeowners with the associated costs. In some cases, local housing grants help homeowners who have to remove asbestos as part of home repairs. You are not really supposed to seal asbestos with paint, but in theory it could work—the caveat being that this is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The only real way to seal asbestos is with the professional application of an encapsulating material like epoxy. Due to the negative effect asbestos can have on your home, however, it is usually the best course of action to accept a costly fix and remove the material entirely.

Performing abatement for asbestos means the contractor removes or encapsulates the asbestos to protect your family’s health. The term abatement refers to the steps required to keep asbestos fibers from moving into the air. Understanding what asbestos abatement is can help you discuss the case with your contractors by understanding the jargon they use. 

In the 1980s, the use of asbestos in house siding materials underwent a significant decline, ultimately being phased out by the mid-1980s to early 1990s. This change was largely due to a growing awareness of the severe health risks associated with asbestos exposure, particularly its link to lung diseases and cancers. With increased public concern and regulatory agency involvement, building codes and regulations were updated to restrict the use of asbestos in construction materials. 

Epoxying over asbestos tiles is generally considered a safe option when done correctly. Epoxy acts as a sealant, encapsulating the asbestos tiles and preventing the release of asbestos fibers into the air. The key is ensuring that the asbestos tiles are in good condition, firmly adhered to the substrate, and not damaged or deteriorating. This method is only appropriate for tiles that are undamaged and securely in place. If the asbestos tiles are already loose, damaged, or deteriorating, encapsulating them with epoxy may not be a sufficient solution, as it might not address the potential for ongoing asbestos exposure.
