"I decided to reface my kitchen cabinets rather than replace them because the cabinets were in very good shape, and I did not want to disrupt my entire kitchen. I selected natural Shaker-style brand new doors and drawers to give my kitchen an update; they look great with my stainless steel appliances and nickel hardware. Rob did a wonderful job of refacing my cabinets, and he gladly returned to address any questions or concerns and to make any adjustments. My kitchen looks great, and I feel that I saved a lot of money by updating my existing cabinets."

"I needed a ceiling patch. Install 2 new air vents and replace ballast, replace bubs in ceiling kitchen light (large ceiling light), replace bulb in ceiling fan and replace bulb in laundry light. Olvin Ramirez did it all and beautifully. He is kind, respectful, knowledgeable and very hardworking! I’ve never seen anyone who works as quickly and accurately as Olvin does. He was without a doubt the best handyman I have ever had the pleasure to work with and would greatly appreciate and welcome him into my home again for future projects."

"The service went well. I have no complaints and they did a very nice job. The only thing about refacing is that when you bump things into the cabinets they will scratch. They have held up pretty well over the years, however. The technician was very professional and efficient. I do not remember having any scheduling issues."

"Last fall we started to focus on maintenance for the kitchen cabinets, as they were starting to look like they needed attention, peeling paint, etc. We knew very little what our options were, so our starting point was to do an online research for the cabinet company with the best reviews in the area, which was Capital Cabinet Refacing. Keith came out and went over the different options (replace, repaint, reface), he was very thorough and took his time to educate us in the process. We decided refacing was the best option for us. A week or so later, Javier and his team of installers came out to take the measurements. During the installation, we watched how much attention to detail Javier and team put into their work. I know that in some of the past reviews it mentions not being able to get a hold of Keith, I had the same issues but he does always call back, maybe it takes him just a little longer than our nerves can take, since it is a big investment thoughts tend to go to…..did I make the right choice? We are here to tell you that at the end of the project, they are reliable, honest and they really care about the quality of their work. We definitely made the right decision going with Capital Cabinet Refacing."

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing questions, answered by experts

DIY refacing is possible if you're skilled in precise measurements, cutting, and finishing, but hiring professionals ensures a seamless finish and durable results.

Yes, you can replace just your cabinet doors, assuming the structure of the cabinets themselves is sound. Replacing only the doors can save you money when renovating your cabinets. New cabinet doors cost $300 on average, but range from $200 to $400, depending on the material and size. Keep in mind that replacement doors made of materials like fiberboard and engineered wood are less expensive than wooden cabinet doors.

If you don't sand your cabinets, the new paint or stain won’t adhere properly, impacting the final finish and leading to peeling, chipping, or a sloppy result that won't stand the test of time. Sanding removes the old finish, smooths imperfections, and gives the new coat something to grip. Without it, you will waste your time, money, and effort.

How much cheaper it is to replace your cabinet doors depends on your needs. If you’re looking to spruce up the look and feel of your kitchen, then you can make cosmetic adjustments to your existing doors, like installing new knobs or a fresh coat of paint. Cabinets can be some of the most costly parts of a kitchen remodel, but if there’s structural damage regarding your doors, then replacing them is your best option.

Costs vary by materials used, surface size, and complexity. Refacing can be cost-effective compared to full replacements, with an average range between $300 and $1,200.
