"Original symptoms: furnace burners wouldn't fire, fan kept running continuously. Technician banged on the high limit switch with a wrench and problem went away (< 15 minute job). Then he took some temperature readings of the supply and return air and said that the switch was probably worn out from doing what it was designed to do (cut off when the furnace is running too hot). He suspected that either the blower was gunked with dirt or worse case the coil. I agreed to let him pull the blower, clean it, and reinstall (> 1 hour job). Blower didn't look very dirty to me but I suppose the extra $100 for him to clean it helped; time will tell."
