"I had an incredible experience with B&D Construction and highly recommend them! They handled a large drywall repair, painting, framing, and subfloor repair at my home, and the quality of their work was flawless. Pete, who runs the company, is an amazing guyâ honest, hardworking, and unbelievably accommodating. Due to a time crunch on my end, Pete went above and beyond to push his team and complete the job in record time, without ever compromising on quality. Their pricing was very reasonable, and the craftsmanship was outstanding from start to finish. If you're looking for a construction company that delivers top-notch results with excellent customer service, look no further than B&D Construction. They exceeded my expectations in every way!"

"Danny was very helpful. My wall repair was completed in a few hours and he also took the time to look at a few more projects around the house I’m looking to get done in the future. Appreciate his hospitality and professionalism. He was also prompt and on time for the appointment we set. His work appears thorough and I would recommend his services."

"I can't say enough about Harry! He completely renovated my (total gut job) rental. He stripped the house down to the framing, including replacement of loadbearing walls! The entire house is brand new and beautiful! He is trustworthy, reasonably priced and takes much pride in his work! Harry has also completed many projects in my residence! I promise, you will not be disappointed!"

"The dirt under the concrete lip going into the garage was washing away. The drain was sinking into the ground and the retaining wall is coming apart. I was afraid a sink hole was forming. Brian Swan, Edwin, John R., Brian R. and Josh worked very hard repairing the drainage problem. A type of foam was shot under the concrete. They all took extra care to leave everything neat and tidy. The only thing left is find someone to fix the retaining wall."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Regular inspection for issues like cracks or leaning and ensuring drainage stays clear.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.
