"Bill did a great job on a variety of jobs (painted all interior doors, replaced the door knobs, painted a bedroom, replaced an exterior door, replaced rotting wood outside the garage, installed smoke detectors, unclogged a bathroom sink and stopped a leaky bath faucet). He provided me with constant updates and was a pleasure to work with."

"Dimitri’s Home Improvement is a gem. They have done 3 extensive projects for us: roof repair, window replacement treated as new construction, and a master bath renovation down to the joists and studs and back again. This last project presented some unusual challenges, which were resolved perfectly and beautifully. Their work is precise and painstaking. It is on time and on budget. We did not hesitate to leave the house with work ongoing. Their plumbing subcontractor was equally reliable. We will, without hesitation, call on Dimitri’s for future projects. Dimitri and his son, Jim, are gentlemen and they are artists. Dimitri ably guided us through both design and technical questions that arose along the way. He communicates well and brought us into the loop each day. Both gents take great pride in their work and are dedicated to customer satisfaction. They are a great pleasure to work with. And their work stands the test of time. We are grateful to have found such expert and dependable craftsmen."

"We chose VKB mainly on its reviews on this website. Overall the experience was very positive. We were pleased to learn that VBK did not charge a fee upfront to design the kitchen. Calvin (kitchen designer) made excellent suggestions to improve our original vision and was responsive to changes to the design. Calvin convinced us to choose wood floor and crown molding, and the type of range hood, and he was right on all counts! Because of the smooth design process with Calvin and reasonable price, we decided to sign on with VBK over other companies. The implementation phase had some bumps: the design drawings that Jason (project manager) and Ismar (crew leader) started with were not the updated version, but thankfully that was quickly rectified. In addition there were some misunderstanding on the scope of the painting area, but Calvin agreed to honor what we had discussed verbally, even though it was not spelled out in the contract. Jason listened and patiently explained the project process, and kept asking to make sure that we were happy with the progress. For example, he agreed to redo the placement of the undercabinet lights. He also accommodated our desire to donate our old cabinets to Habitat for Humanity, and Ismar and his crew carefully took the down the cabinets and stored them in our garage for pickup later in the week. Ismar, Luis, and the rest of the crew did a fantastic job installing and painting everything, and their experience showed in disguising the fact that our walls were not straight and the floor was not even. We were also impressed with the laser tools that they used to guide cabinet and light placements. The crew was careful, meticulous, and respectful, and they cleaned up throughly every day. There were other crews handling the flooring and countertops, who also did top notch work, and all were coordinated like clockwork by Jason. Along the way, we learned some lessons and offer the following advice: if you are particular about the placement of your celling lights, electrical outlets and switches, let the crew know, and they will do their best to accommodate. Also, pay attention to every single detail in the contract; if not specified, there can be a misunderstanding, and a deviation may require a change order and extra expense. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the excellent quality of the work, and even though there was a delay in the backsplash order, the job finished as projected. We definitely recommend VKB, and we love our new kitchen. Jason -- we are happy!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"We live in a condo and, while we were on vacation, a flood in our neighbor's unit penetrated into our unit under our shared drywall and ruined part of that wall and the floor in our unit.  The drywall had to be partially reconstructed and the affected hardwood floor taken up and replaced with tile.
This was a particularly challenging piece of work since the existing hardwood damaged by the flood was attached to the underfloor with incredibly strong glue that had to be removed practically inch by inch, and the surface rendered level and smooth.   Laying the replacement tile presented its own challenges in order to compensate for differences in thickness and in order  to arrange the
pieces in such a way that the natural patterns of the stone were complementary.  In addition, the tile adjoined existing hardwood and existing tile, so it was a challenge to lay the new tile so that it was level with the existing floor.  This is extremely exacting work, and requires an expert eye and meticulous attention to detail, as well as great patience.  Misha's crew exhibited all of these qualities combined with unfailing good humor and professionalism.  They take great pride in their work and are true craftsmen, which really shows in the quality of their work.  In addition, Misha always has good advice on different ways to approach repair and remodeling problems, with the pros and cons and short-term costs and long-term effects of each option.  This really made us feel like partners in the enterprise, and we were enormously pleased with the results.
Note - Misha has done work for us before in our condo (extensive bathroom remodeling) and, before that, he performed a major remodeling effort on a rental property of ours which had been incompetently rehabbed by someone else, causing us numerous structural and mechanical problems.  Misha and his crew resolved all of these problems and proactively identified and corrected other issues which would have contributed to future problems (e.g. leaks).
Finally - like many people, we have had a number of bad experiences with contractors who - as we generally found out when it was too late - were not competent to perform the work and because of this often laid the groundwork for future problems.  Not being professionals in this area ourselves, we were unable to spot  these problems during implementation, but had to pay for the consequences later.  Misha's work has always withstood the test of  time, and we have come to trust him completely.  It's no exaggeration to say that we would not consider hiring anyone else to do our work - and, of course, we recommend him without reservation to anyone else needing any kind of repair and remodeling work."

"John’s crew did an outstanding job replacing our old window wells. We had landscaped the area around the wells several years back. They meticulously removed the decorative stone and covered our flocks during the excavation. Once the new wells were installed they moved all the stones back and hauled all of the excess soil away. Our flocks survived the entire ordeal and look great. They finished the project in only a few hours! I highly recommend this company for any home project."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

The most common slope, or roof pitch, for a shed is 4:12 or four inches of height for every horizontal foot. For areas that experience heavy snow loads, a steeper roof of 6:12 or 9:12 is best.

Whether a prefab home is worth it or not will depend on your personal needs and preferences. Overall, prefab homes tend to cost less than traditional homes, although they also tend to have lower resale values. Another thing to consider is that prefab homes usually last 50 to 60 years or longer, while traditional homes last 50 to 100 years or more.

Your chicken coop needs to be off the ground to protect your chickens and avoid problems brought on by flooding, mud, and moisture. If you can't locate a high area to build the coop, you should build an elevated coop to ensure it stays dry.

This answer varies based on where you are, but most states require that all homes are greater than 320 square feet. Remember that four walls are not the only requirements—windows, closet space, minimal ceiling heights, and indoor air quality are also factors. Each state and municipality differs, though, and as some don’t consider tiny homes permanent shelters, you’ll need to check to ensure you aren’t violating any local or state laws with your build.

Your foundation contractor will first need to remove the topsoil and any vegetation within 4 feet of the area around the barn. They’ll need to ensure they have clear access to the site to begin excavation, after which they can begin construction.
