"Nicolle Paint did an outstanding job for us. We live in an older home which has plaster walls and ceilings. Over the last several years we have noticed cracks and crevices in our downstairs ceilings that were getting larger with each passing year. Moyses from Nicolle Paint came out and identified the problem and gave us a fair and competitive estimate. They started their work after completely containing the affected rooms with tape and drop clothes. When they finished, we were amazed and wished we had done the repairs sooner. "There is paint splatter all over the roof, paint smears on windows, unpainted streak on front door, one of the windows in bedroom was left open and painted so that I had to hire a handyman to get it unstuck so it would close. I was working in AZ so that window was open from Oct until I returned at the end of Jan. They did not scrape off old paint so the white around front door looks awful. It looked great in pics but I was so disappointed when I got back to the house and saw it up close."

"We purchased a new front door and storm door from Arch Exteriors. The Sales person and the quality of the door were good. Our issue was with the service department and the installation crew. The installation crew/manager did a sub-standard job for installation. The door itself was not set in level, there was an obvious gab and then the lock was damaged when they tried to install it. They cut too far back on the inside tile floor and tried to hide it with pieces of shoe molding. The seal at the bottom of the door began to fall off within the first month. We had to fight with the service manager, Byron, to get anything fixed or to show up for appointments he made with us. The service manager, Byron, did not appear to have trained his crew on how to install a door. Our storm door was initially installed with no safety chain, so the first gust of wind tore the door off the hinges and half of the trim off the door frame. But Byron said since it was the wind, nothing can be done. I pointed out the door lacked some pieces to prevent this. When I pay someone to do work, my expectation is that it will be done better than what I could have done. This was not our experience at all. I can not give a good review due to the service/installation department. Gary Hudak"

Drywall mud should be left to dry for at least 24 hours before sanding, though drying time depends on the thickness of the application, humidity, and room temperature. Thicker layers or projects done in high humidity may require 48 hours or more of drying time. You’ll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and appears light in color throughout. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is key for a smooth, professional-looking finish.

It’s less costly to drywall a fireplace than shiplapping it since material costs are higher for shiplap. However, if you’re DIYing the project, shiplap is less expensive since you won’t have to pay for labor. With drywall, getting a smooth finish is difficult unless you’re a pro. Shiplap is ideal for an accent wall or unique space, such as around a fireplace, since it adds texture and gives off a cozy vibe.

Drywall installation is considerably faster and more affordable than plastering. Because plastering involves applying a wet material, it’s more time-consuming, takes longer to dry, and is more prone to cracking. It doesn’t tend to be as insulative either. If you need resurfacing work done on the walls, it's not unusual for the cost of plastering to hit $10 per square foot, which is much higher than the drywall installation costs of $1.50 to $3 per square foot.

If you’re looking for good soundproofing and want a high-end look in a historic home, though, plastering may be the better option.

You should wait at least 24 hours between each coat of drywall mud before sanding and adding another coat. This ensures the mud dries completely, although drying time depends on temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Lightweight muds dry faster, while heavier all-purpose compounds take longer. Always check for firmness and dryness before sanding or applying the next layer.

Which style of corner bead you choose—whether metal or paper-faced—depends on your preference and if you’re comfortable using metal-cutting tools and a hammer. Metal bead offers superior strength and durability but its installation is slightly more involved. We’d say for most cases, it’s better to use metal bead but if you’re not comfortable working with metal, paper-faced bead will work just fine.
