In my past life I was a licensed home contractor in Richmond VA, and have since evolved into a boring office worker. I am pretty handy around the home and do most of the work myself ranging from finish carpentry and full remodels. One job that I do not have a skill for is finish plaster and boy was I happy when I met Dave for the estimate. After our first meeting and job site review I knew I did not have to look at any other contractors. The estimate and references were good for me and having a professional with experience with mid century homes was a perfect. Dave showed up on time, took on the project and completed on time with a perfect finish. The job site was clean every day the walls were covered with a level plaster finish and all patches are blended perfectly. After painting you can not tell the walls were ever touched. During the days that Dave was on the job I would come home from work and ask my wife if Dave sanded today, because the walls were so smooth. Truth is no sanding was done until the last day of the job with no mess. We are starting a new project soon and I have contacted Dave to see if he is available for the finish plaster work, I have already been contacted for an estimate and if all works out we will go with Dave on this job as well. Finish plaster is an art form and if you ever need a true artist contact D.S. Patterson for a professional finish. That itself is very telling, at least around here. Then, they were courteous gentlemen, cordial and friendly, and even like dogs and cats! When they installed the cement slab, the weather was very cold, but they waited and baby sat the cement so it could cure properly. They came back after dark to check it and spread straw. They had given us an estimate of, I think, $225, but they charged only $200. The second occasion, they repaired the hole in the wall, installed new tiles to replace the ones that had broken and installed a heavy duty grab bar, the price of which, as well as the price of the tiles, was included in their fee. While they were there, they installed a faucet and repaired two leaking faucets. That was all for the same $260 price. Today, the third occasion, they came and installed a water line for a new fridge and an outdoor hose bib. Again, it was very cold and snowy outdoors, but that did not seem to bother them. They checked the water lines thoroughly and, after finding a tiny leak, fixed that and checked again until everything was perfect. They also gave me, at my request, a lesson in using a stud finder as I am putting up some shelves on my own. They are so kind! They are very pleasant to have around but they keep working are very conscientious about doing jobs right. (They list ceramic tile, carpentry, masonry work, block laying, and concrete finishing on their business card, but they told me they do about anything. They are much more than \"handymen,\" but they are the only folks that we have found that are willling to do some smaller jobs such as we have and really do them well.)"},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/md/frostburg/richards-brothers-construction-reviews-7766990.htm"},"position":2},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Arthur Bond Home Improvements","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MD","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Roger B."},"reviewBody":"There are 3 generations involved in the business. What mood do you want to create? Chromotherapy has been used in ancient civilizations and is still used as a holistic or alternative treatment to affect mood. While "blood" red was considered a "fright or flight" evoking color or symbol of power, home in a thatched shelter of green palm fronds and having some protection from the lush green background vegetation, there was generally peace and relaxation. Colors affect the mood of the people in the room, but they also need to reflect the style and personality of the people that reside there and are truly a personal choice. Whether straight painting or special decorative projects, I can create an environment of energy or relaxation for the ways you view your world.

FAQs for plaster repair projects in Frostburg, MD
Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10per square foot for both the material and labor. The cost will vary based on the quality of the plaster you’re using and whether or not prep work is required before the work begins. Wall prep can add up to about 10% to your total costs. Plastering exterior walls can be more expensive in many cases because they are taller and require scaffolding and safety equipment.
Repairing plaster walls is almost always worthwhile. Not only will plaster repairs make your walls look new again, but repairs of minor cracks can often reinforce the plaster and help prevent the cracks from spreading and widening. Additionally, hiring a professional to carry out plaster wall repair means they can let you know if the cracking is a result of a severe underlying issue. Catching a problem like foundation instability early could save you thousands, a luxury you wouldn’t have if you just repaired the walls yourself.
Plaster repair costs range from $4 to $10per square foot for refinishing, while skim coating can be less expensive, usually between $2 and $5 per square foot. The price you pay for plaster repairs will depend on the extent of the damage, the type of plaster you have on your walls, and the accessibility of the damage. Plaster repair on the exterior of your home tends to be more expensive, as there’s a higher chance that ladders or scaffolding will be necessary to carry out the repair.
It is possible to repair plaster walls yourself, but it’s not always a good idea. Hiring a professional means you’ll have expert eyes on the damage looking to see if there is an underlying issue or if the cracks are just from normal expansion and contraction. Additionally, a professional’s plaster repair will very likely last longer than a DIY job, which means you could end up saving money over time by going with a pro from the start.
All plaster walls will crack over time with expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes, as well as from normal house settling. In these cases, the cracks will usually be thin and don’t mean there are major structural issues. However, excessive cracking, wide wall cracks, and cracks that span around corners can sometimes mean you have a foundation issue. Identifying severe problems is a key reason why hiring a professional for plaster repair is usually a good idea.
