"Painters arrived exactly on time and accomplished all tasks the same day. The manually stripped the deck and applied two coats of stain. They carefully cleaned and then painted the foundation concrete as it had got dirty over the years. They also scraped, caulked and painted a large bump-out window off our living room.

"Crazy hard to schedule-no less than 10 emails back and forth. When finally scheduled both jobs were done as scheduled, except the leaf removal person showed up to clean my gutters! Both jobs were performed satisfactorily, but I feel the leaf removal should include blowing off the deck and actually REMOVING the leaves and not wanting to leave the bags for me. The person did remove them for me since I had had the scheduling issues...much appreciated.
The main reason I couldn't give them a better rating was due to the scheduling personnel.

EW even custom designed a new look. Frank encourages the customer to be involved through the whole process even allowing changes through the process they arrived every day at 8am and gave us a full day. They didn't rush and took the time for perfection. They fixed any. Little nick at the end of we had a problem. We Han 2 big issues a scratched baluster and a corner needed some sanding. I'm sure they added over 20,000 to my value. Boy did we and ANGIES list make a great choice. I included some pics of my once embarrassment of a deck. "We hired them to pressure wash our house, clean out the gutters, pressure wash and reseal the deck, and remove two trees in preparation for fence installation. The guys were friendly and efficient, and their prices are very reasonable. I would recommend them to anyone needing some house and lawn work done."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Yes, and in some cases, frozen ground may improve the digging process for footings due to sturdier conditions. It’s easier than working in muddy conditions, which are more common in the spring. Contractors may use machinery that makes this step a breeze, so harder ground shouldn’t affect the building process.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

The best way to clean your decking is to clear debris from the gaps between the boards, sweep the surface, rinse it, apply cleaner, rinse again, and let it dry fully. A homemade deck cleaner made of two gallons of warm water and 1/2 cup vinegar is a simple cleaning solution for both wood and composite decking. You can sprinkle baking soda on any spots with mold or mildew, then scrub the area and rinse clean.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.

The cost to repair a deck is between $900 and $3,500, depending on the cause and extent of the damage. For example, fixing a sinking deck caused by pest damage can cost between $200 and $600, while replacing sinking boards costs between $500 and $4,000.
