Inspecting your storm door regularly is important to catch any issues early and ensure its proper functionality. It's recommended to perform a thorough inspection at least once every season. This means you should check your storm door for any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction approximately four times per year—during spring, summer, fall, and winter.

You want a small gap of 1/8 of an inch between the door and the jamb. However, the gap size depends on the direction the door swings and whether it contains glass. You will also want to aim for the same size gap on all sides of the door, so it opens and closes smoothly.

While sliding glass doors are designed to be rainproof and weather resistant, they cannot be considered 100% watertight in conditions with heavy rain or winds. However, maintaining a door properly and ensuring that seals are tight can dramatically reduce risks of water intrusion.

The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame.
