I retired here 11 years ago in Sussex County after a rewarding career in the field of Environmental Science and General Contracting in upstate New York. When you retire, you should have an exit plan.... I, however, am finding sitting down to read a book or taking a long stroll on the beach will result in either me being placed in a mental institution, or being shot by my wife (she says I am driving her crazy). Therefore, after renovating three homes in the area, I have decided to offer my services as a handyman. "The Window People did an excellent job replacing an exterior door in my home. The contractor was very polite and capable and the door looks great and he cleaned up the area nicely when the job was done. I knocked one star off of my 'customer service' rating for the following reasons: First, he asked me if I had any caulk he could use (which I did, and which I offered him, but I think this should have been HIS responsibility, since it's something that a contractor should expect to bring with him to do the job, not something that you need to rely on the customer to supply (unlike the actual door, for example). Secondly, he asked if I had a caulk gun that he could use (which I did, but again, shouldn't the contractor be expected to bring caulk and a caulk gun to a job site where he knows he will need it?). And thirdly, he asked if I had a hacksaw that he could use to cut the molding (which I did, and which which I offered to him, but again . . . .). In any case, I am delighted with the work that was done."
