"Needed to have my deck stained. They provided a reasonable price. They cleaned and sanded deck. I?m glad they educated me on the oil stain. The oil stain, Ready Seal, looks great. The man who stained the deck did an outstanding job. He was very detailed in ensuring the stain was evenly spread. Great Job Leonpro!"

"Excellent. The work was done to my satisfaction. The handyman showed up on time (actually early, which was great for me). All work was done professionally, expertly, and quickly. He even cleaned everything up afterward (not every contractor does that). I do have some futrue projects that are beyond my ability and I was planning to call them back to do this work."

"DVR was the best remodel work I have ever had. Did my upstairs, main floor and basement. The work was detailed and precise. Including new fireplace. Outside work included my pier, decks, stairs and paving work. They stand behind all their work as they responded quickly to any concerns I had. Price was by far the best I found. Lastly, they are good people too. That is what I liked the best."

"Our basement was flooded and we needed a total re-do. We needed numerous things done, and didn't want to hire multiple groups of workers. Two Brothers were professional, hard-working, and produced great results. Put together our bath, office, kids playroom...drywall, prep, paint...tile, they did it all. Very happy to work with experienced professional gentleman ready to solve my problem. Straight talk is always appreciated."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

Typically, most residential wooden decks are designed to support approximately 40 pounds per square foot, including the deck’s weight and any items placed on it. While this is fine for typical use, it is usually not enough to hold the weight of a hot tub filled with water and people. To safely support a hot tub, your wood deck will likely require reinforcement. Therefore, it’s best to have a contractor or a structural engineer assess it before hot tub installation.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, especially for smaller or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks do not require digging or pouring. However, their use is dependent on local building codes. Some areas, particularly those prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes, may not permit the use of deck pier blocks. It is essential to consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.

In many areas, a floating deck that isn’t connected to your home and stays under 200 square feet and below 30 inches in height may not need a permit. These freestanding structures are often considered low-risk, which can simplify the building process. However, building codes vary greatly based on location. Before investing in any home improvement project, check with your local permitting office for deck-building guidelines.

What goes under your floating deck depends on your preferences. Some homeowners put landscaping fabric underneath their decks to prevent weeds from popping up through the boards. Others choose to build a floating deck over grass or gravel. However, it’s best not to set your deck directly on the ground. Instead, set your deck on blocks to keep it elevated enough to prevent moisture from rotting the wood.
