Once the work started, they showed up when they were supposed to. It took three days to remove the old system and install the new system along with electrical work to new heater auxiliary heat panels. They had to cut hole in the wall to access wires to feed to new furnace which I later fixed on my own. Once the unit was installed they couldn't get it to work so the installing technicians turned it over to their troubleshooting technicians. I went with a high end 18 SEER unit due to rebates available from Potomac Edison which nearly paid for the price difference. They had no experience installing this high end of a system so they had to figure out how it worked. It turns out they wired it up wrong and once wired up properly it ran fine. In final inspection, I noticed there was no place to put an air filter so they cut a hole in the duct work to slide a filter into. After the system was running, I was getting error message on the thermostat so they had to return a couple of times to determine what was wrong. After the last visit I never heard back from them as to what they did but the system is working good. Thus far my utility bills to heat the house are a lot less but it hasn't been that cold yet either. After they left I noticed some wires that were left exposed from the old system and I'll need to terminate these in a box. I believe this happened in the transition of technicians working on the system. I didn't bother contacting them to fix it. I never received a final invoice for the work but they called me several weeks after the install asking for payment, which I promptly provided over the phone. The gal in the office also prepared all the paperwork for the Potomac Edison rebate which I just had to sign and mail in. Overall, I'm happy with the system.

Upon returning the carpet shampooer to me I discovered that it was full of animal hair and needed cleaned badly. The spray nozzles for both the floor cleaner and the hand tool were clogged and totally stopped working. So I called Total Vac II and asked if they could take it apart and clean it out for me and have it working again. Not a problem they said, give us 2-3 days and we'll have it as good as new. I didn't clean a single part of the machine, both inside and out were in terrible shape when I dropped it off. After a week passed and I hadn't heard anything I called to check in on it. They said it was done and I could come pick it up when it suited me. When I picked it up I noticed the outside of the unit was still filthy. I commented on it and the clerk at the store told me that they are more concerned about the inner workings. I didn't say anything because they were right, there was no reason I couldn't wipe it down with paper towels and clean it. I took the machine out to the car where my significant other was waiting. Upon looking the machine over she told me that there was no way they cleaned anything at all, that as dirty as the outside was there would be hand prints and marks from them taking it apart. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and took it home without complaining or pushing the issue farther. Needless to say, we got the unit home, filled it with water and cleaning solution and guess what...?! IT STILL DOESN'T SPRAY!!! I actually got to looking at it myself then and there were clogs of dog hair in the underneath part that were there when I dropped it off and there when I picked it up. They never did anything to it! They just held onto it for a week, returned it to me and essentially charged me $50 for it taking up space in their shop. I tried calling them and the man I got on the phone played dumb and was unwilling to make any suggestions to actually remedy the situation. It is safe to say that Total Vac is on my list of places that I will NEVER do business with again. I learned 2 valuable lessons: 1) Don't lend a carpet cleaner to someone with pets 2) Don't waste my time or money with Total Vac "},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/pa/chambersburg/the-vacuum-supper-store-reviews-7617333.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"C V Wenger Inc","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MD","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Greg P."},"reviewBody":"Overall the workers did a good job. The installation seems sound and everything is working great, although we haven't used the heat yet. Everyone seemed very professional and pleasant. When dealing with the company everything was done on time, no waiting. It did take them almost 2 weeks to send me my final bill but that wasn't really a problem, it just required me to make a phone call to determine what was going on. Negative items: Some of the seam sealing of the duct work is not very good but that is very minor. Our biggest complaint was that there was little or no effort to clean up debris from the work or even to mitigate the mess from the start. There was PVC and quot;dustand quot; tramped all over the house, bits of wire insulation, dirt, etc. i even found a few extra screws laying on a table that were left over (extras I hope) from installing the new thermostat. They also left the old thermostat on our dining table. I'm glad we don't have small children as these items are choking hazards and the old thermostat contained a glass ampule mercury switch which could easily be broken. Outside, I found a long piece of piping and insulation left behind the AC unit. They drilled a large hole through our foundation to run pipes and wires then left chunks of concrete in the basement and in the garden. Wherever they worked there was evidence of their efforts. It took my wife over an hour to get all the plastic dust and other stuff cleaned up because there was a little pile here, a little pile there, etc.. To some people this may not be a big deal but I worked in residential renovation for many years and we would never leave a mess when we finished so I am very sensitive to this and have high expectations from people that work in my house. I think these guys were in a hurry to get on their way as it was a Friday afternoon when they finished up. So, long story short, I would use them again but I'd tell the boss to have his workers make sure to clean up when they are done! Because we went with a costlier unit we were also given a free weeks stay in a vacation condo but honestly I'd rather have the value deducted from my bill."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/pa/chambersburg/c-v-wenger-inc-reviews-2042634.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Larry and Sons, Inc.","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MD","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Jereme C."},"reviewBody":"
Our oil furnace failed on us this past year and was not worth fixing. We knew that is was coming but we were trying to hold off
on replacing it for one more year. Our system (heat pump, ac, oil furnace) was over 20 years old, so instead of just getting a new oil furnace we wanted to replace it all. We also did not have any type of heating or air in the upstairs (1920 home) so we wanted to have an attic unit installed also. We called 5 different HVAC companies to come and give us an estimate for the entire job.Out of all of the bids Larry and Sons was not the cheapest but they did off the best warranty and guarantee. They also came to the house and went over the estimate and were even willing to bargain on some of the prices. They came out and made some measurements and started on the job on a Monday and were 100% finished on that same Friday. They did a great job keeping the duct work neat and clean so that the attic is still a functional storage space. They did a great job placing the new units outside and running all of the lines.After the job was done a representative scheduled an appointment to stop by and do a walk through and to see if we needed anything. They even brought us a gift bag that we were completely surprised to receive. We ended up getting a 10 year total warranty and a 2 year test drive. Basically we were guaranteed comfort and a return on our investment. We have been very happy since day one and are truly satisfied with everything they have done. I would highly recomend Larry and Sons to anyone who needed some HVAC done."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/md/hagerstown/larry-and-sons%2C-inc-reviews-2065799.htm"},"position":10}]}

My house has never been so clean! Very thorough job!
Contacted Angie's list on Sunday looking for HVAC service as my central air stopped working. I was given a list of four businesses. Within minutes two of the companies contacted me. The first being Wadel's HVAC. I emailed Jennifer at Wadel's to inform her of my problem, she informed me that...

I initially got four quotes for the replacement of my fuel oil furnace and central air unit with a new heat pump and duct work to increase my airflow. They were the only contractor I contacted that had electricians and included the electrical work in the quote. They ended up being cheapest...

"Lesson learned. Always get an estimate. BEFORE the work is done. At least a digital copy. Arrangements for the project were made, with some one named Lynn, for the company to send someone to complete the work. We were quoted over the phone 4500-5000 which included a mold test. A sub contractor with an entirely different company (National Mold Company) was sent. When the contractor arrived, he stated that the job would be much more simpler than first thought. This led us to believe that the job would cost less, no. All said and done, they charged $5500. All said and done, it's almost like no work was done. The stains and the smell are still there. Only one actual board was taken upon the attic room. The ceiling in the bedroom was primed and painted but are still visible and have a funky smell. At this point I'm going to. Do what we should have done; Do the job ourselves. Just now with $5500 less dollars in our pockets. A detailed receipt was not given even though it was requested."

Specializing in emergency water damage mitigation, mold remediation, moisture control, Radon mitigation systems and air duct cleaning for residential, commercial and industrial customers.
"AdvantaClean installed a radon mitigation system at my house. Within two years, the piping they put in on the outside of the house to vent the gas collapsed. Upon further inspection, the ~30ft., ~50lb. pipe had been affixed upright by two plastic ties screwed to the siding, and the weight of the pipe had caused the screws to tear through the thin plastic on both ties. Similar systems I've looked at in the neighborhood use lighter, metal, gutter-like pipes, and metal ties (stronger ties for lighter pipes!). When contacted, Dave (the owner) tried to get me to pay $300 to fix it, claiming that he otherwise "couldn't help me" because I couldn't reasonably expect their work to last for almost two years. He also said any kind of warranty was void because "wind damage" wasn't covered. The winds in Frederick topped out at 8mph the day it fell, but I guess he's right. It honestly WOULD be unreasonable to expect this quality of work to hold up to normal weather events (normal storms and winds in a fairly mild weather part of the country) and wear for two whole years! I'm frankly surprised it didn't fall earlier. Oh, and it took me calling AdvantaClean three times to get ahold of him (thought I was promised a call back each time!), but that's way less egregious than the whole "doing sub-par work and trying to get me to pay for it when it failed" thing."
