"As with a lot of homeowners, we were scared stiff about starting a home remodeling project after all of the horror stories we had heard from friends. We were pushed off the edge by a master shower that stopped working and could not be repaired without tearing up the walls. We dove in after reading great reviews about VKB and totally lucked out by getting matched up with Calvin when we walked into the store. From start to finish this has been an amazing experience starting with the design phase, to demolition, construction, and final walk through. Calvin was perfect for us. He first asked us to collect pictures of bathrooms while he took meticulous measurements of our space. He then held our hands through what he called an “organic process” of designing our dream bath. What was really fantastic was when we had to choose tile, he walked us next door to the humongous tile store (where he was previously the store manager!) and smoothly guided us through one of the hardest choices to make with the perfect recommendations. The project was then handed to Al, the construction manager, and again we totally lucked out. I highly recommend this team of Calvin and Al. The construction phase went super smoothly. The workers are extremely clean and respectful. Everyday they lay down clean tarps and cover the carpet they are walking on with sticky plastic sheets. (We have white carpet upstairs and after they were done and a quick vacuum it is absolutely good as new!) Demo day was painless, no dumpster... just hand carried away in a truck. Construction happened pretty much daily from 8-4. We didn’t have to be home when the team was here and we felt absolutely comfortable leaving them home unsupervised. I am an orthopedic surgeon so I’m very precise about measurements. Each night I would sneak into the bathroom and measure everything, and I’m telling you all of the measurements were spot on! Also of note, they taped up two plastic sheet barrier walls between the master bedroom and bath which left the bedroom perfectly clean and livable with zero dust. We slept in our own master bed during the whole master bath remodel. In the end the project took one week longer than expected (this happened over Xmas holiday) and right on budget with no HGTV surprises. Al kept in close touch throughout the project and would text back immediately whenever we texted him with a question. Jose was also incredible during the entire remodel. We absolutely love our new bathroom and we honestly can’t think of any choice that we would change looking back. After this fantastic experience we are already planning our kitchen remodel with VKB next year. I will absolutely insist on my same team of Calvin, Al, and Jose. I have no fear of my next remodeling project"

"American Home Contractors did an amazing job on 2 projects in my home that not only make the house beautiful, but also will save me money in the long run. James did a great job of providing me with the necessary options and information to make an informed decision about my purchase of new windows and new door. "I’m an individual who is familiar with real estate and home projects, having done many myself, and this is a true story and honest review for which I did not receive ANY incentive or compensation to write. I was selling a home in Oella, and during its structural inspection a few of the old, 1926 wooden floor joists were found to need replacement. I had interviewed a few different builders and decided to employ Persky Custom Builders.  The owner, Josh, returned my call very soon after I had made it, and our appointment to see the issue was made for the following day (Checked box - Prompt and responsive.)  Josh discussed how he would be able to not only support the structure, but actually replace some pieces  - something which the other builders felt was too difficult to do (Checked box - Knowledgeable with expert skills). There was no sales pressure; Josh was forthright and personable (Checked box - Someone I felt comfortable with).  Josh provided me the quote for the work within a couple of days, and the cost was reasonable.  It was a slight bit higher than the other quotes, but then again, he was offering me a more complex technical solution which I wanted  (Checked box - The price was right).  The work was started within a few days and completed within a week (Checked box – Efficient; stayed with project and finishes it). I was very pleased with the results;  what I thought was going to be impossible, was made possible (Checked box – Great work quality). The work site was left tidy and clean, and Josh came to meet with me to examine the final results, be sure everything was addressed, and I that was pleased (Checked box – Customer service was beyond my expectations).    I have to give Persky Custom Builders an A+.  They checked ALL my boxes for what I needed and wanted for this renovation project. I was tickled pink when the work was completed in a reasonable time frame and with attention to quality. "Due to a previous job running longer than planned, our 3-day job had to be rescheduled.  As it turned out, that was more convenient for us, anyway.  I only mention it to remind folks that this sort of thing can happen.

The first day, they sucked out the old insulation.  That seemed to go pretty well, but I did notice that several pockets of the old stuff were left in place, here and there.  Maybe it could have been done a bit better.

Day 2 was foam sealing of the tops and bottoms of the walls.  This was done by a subcontractor, who arrived saying that they didn't understand the job they were supposed to do.  A call to AC&R resulted in a visit from their "Foam Superintendent" within an hour and everything was straightened out.  Since there is a fair amount of set-up time for the foaming operation, no time was lost in waiting for the superintendent.  The difficulty was chalked up to a difference in terminology between the two companies.  Presumably, they now speak the same language.

Day 3 was blowing in the new insulation, along with the installation of some contraptions between the rafters to allow the eave vents to continue to breathe through all the fluff, and some batt-style insulation over all the catwalk areas in the attic.

Each day, when they left, the place was relatively clean, except for a few bits of insulation fluff in the hallway, under the attic access hatch.  No real problem, there.

We've only had one night with our new insulation, but the house does seem more comfortable.  This operation took us from having about 3-4 inches of matted 70-year-old mineral wool to 19 inches of nice new fluffy fiberglass.  We are expecting a significant decrease in climate control costs, along with increased comfort."
